I found this article on Marciano and found it an interesting topic to blog about. Here is another dead era champ who took care of business like the Klitschko's are. Does he warrant a GOAT mention ? 49-0 is impressive but who were the opponents ? Any prime heavies that catapulted to stardom ? Is his white skin working against him ? I'm asking the real fans and more importantly the arm chair historians and guys who may have saw this guy. Give it to me raw. I see his as being good, but great is a whole nother level. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2009/09/rocky-marciano-the-unappreciated-legend/#more-13518

Mags, realize something, Marciano was anywhere from 185, to 190 in weight, and was 5'-10" . Yes, he was a rugged guy, and ya gotta give him his props for being the only undefeated heavyweight champ, but in todays heavyweight scene, with the size, and strength out there......Old Rock wouldn't stand much of a chance. Notice I didn't say "talent & balls"? That's the one way Marciano may have beaten some of todays guys. He had a lot of both, and today's Prima Dona pussies don't. If they weren't born with the balls to fight, the fucking things shrink from steroid use. And talent????? WTF, jab, clinch,...... jab, hold on for dear life,.......jab, clinch again !

but jim, what if rock ducked under a right cross and countered with his own cross. if he's an exceptionally hard puncher and he catches lewis like that....you know imo its not his size that makes that unlikely. its that rock looks kinda slow. you know?

OK I'm having a hard time seeing 185 pound Rocky, with his perfect ring record against all comers, mug 245 pound Lennox Lewis even once in the real world and even if he did.....Lewis was also hell in the rematches.

I'd have to balance ring accomplishment along with a realization that Lewis is going to be a bigger headache for Louis than Buddy Baer or Primo Carnera ever was... Jim Earl, you can't realize something if it wont actually happen. It's all speculation or just plain opinion. Not a fact. Therefore, not a solid basis. As the ole' saying goes, "To see is to believe".

* There a reason why Calzaghe has never been beaten. He's good, he spanked and embarassed Roy Jones, he dominated Hopkins, two HOF fighters. He also whup and ended the career of a young Lacy, who supposed to be the latest and greatest then. There's a reason why Marciano was undefeated, he was good. He was very smart. He wasn't fast, quick or very talented. He just used his brains and found ways to beat his more talented opponents. He would outsmart and out think these brainless modern day boxers like Tyson.

Well that's how Burt Sugar goes about it but, somehow doesn't even have Lewis in his top twenty. I'd have to balance ring accomplishment along with a realization that Lewis is going to be a bigger headache for Louis than Buddy Baer or Primo Carnera ever was. I also can't help but think that Bowe, Lewis, Foreman and Liston would have a better chance than an upwardly mobile Lightheavyweight great like Ezzard Charles did against Marciano and Charles was doing well early on in both fights even though he was knocked down in the second. Marciano might've taken one of these guys down but not all of them. Lewis is definitely one of Heavyweight's Greats based on his entire boxing record/career, imo. But I have Larry Holmes a notch better than him.

marciano is the only undefeated heavyweight champion. he kicked walcott ass and joe lois. he would knockout tyson like he did walcott. marciano would be too strong for ali. frazier would fall under all that body shots. marciano is probably the best heavy ever. dempsey is second. no one beat marciano and no one could ever beat him including these boxers today like holyfield, tyson, foreman, klitcsko. marciano would be undefeated just the same. he is undefeated and that is the mark that put him above all heavyweights You need help Kiddo. Kid
