Margarito: The Most SCARED Man in the Welterweight Division.

The following post, was presented by a fellow poster...and after its review, I felt it needed its own thread.

Margarito was offered 4 Million DOLLARS to fight Paul Williams a second time..and couldn't muster the courage to sign the paperwork...and instead....opted to fight an over the hill fighter (MOSELY) for 2 Million DOLLARS.

I seem to remember a certain undefeated, P4P Phenom being lambasted for less....

Anyways...here's the poster's post:

"Post fight interview
Promoter Dan Goossen interrupted ?We wanted to fight Margarito, we offered four million dollars and Bob Arum turned it down.?

During the post fight conference, copies of the offer made to Top Rank by Goossen Tutor Promotions to face Paul Williams were distributed.

?Now Margarito has agreed to fight Shane Mosley for close to two million dollars, less than the offer to challenge Williams,? said Dan Goossen. ?For the betterment of our sport, the fans, the networks and especially the fighters, our sport needs to have the best fighting the best.?

Dated August 05, 2008 a response from Top Rank to Goossen Tutor Boxing stated:

?after the terrible experience I was subjected to by Paul Williams, his camp, and advisor in connection with a Pavlik fight, I have absolutely no intention whatsoever to be involved in any fight with Mr. Williams. Accordingly your proposal is in all respect rejected and I would request that you do not contact me again regarding Mr. Williams.? Signed by Bob Arum."

The Longer Margarito Dodges Williams, the more apparent it's becoming - just how scared of another loss, he is.

Come on Margarito....Donde es su Machismo! ? :-D

Mr Hopkins became a favorite of mine, finally,
based on the Tarver fight and his shutout of
Pavlik......not to mention his ten year MW reign.

I've always like Bernard. He's got class. He's not an arrogant blowhard like some fighters.

Yeah, I think Arum has gotten into Margarito's ear and giving him some horrible career advise.

That's an understatment. But at least he's giving him some paydays now so he can buy out his contract. ;)

And I have to overlook a bit of the customary
race baiting for that....no problem so far though.

The guy is the "Tommy 'Phantom of Philly' Loughran"
that I've been waiting for all my life. :-D

And Kelly is still a baaad Middleweight favorite of
mine too.

Probaly, but I think B-Hop was a good fight for Pavlik. He just lost.

I'm wondering if Pavlik's team's decision to test
the waters above 160 was upon advice from Arum.

i'm not saying that williams/tony would not be a great fight, i think it would be a hell of a fight, the only thing i say is that if he beat tony so clearly why did he shy away from the immediate rematch, and WBO not complying with tony to make him his immediate opponent?? why?? so even though its probably the best fight at 147.. i think williams should stop complaining, take on clottey, KO his ass and then i'm sure his name will light up in people's eyes! not try and live off a margarito close win! where i feel like he self proclaimed himself as a $$ fighter! i mean even in the quintana rematch he had already eaten some leather, and in the 1st one i feel that if quintana had some power, he's sit wiliams down, not ko but at least kd..they're one and one, and quintana has said he'd fight him again.. i feel like williams is being overhyped, he took good leather vs phillips.. he felt tony's power, and that is why he hugged, and jabbed his way to a close decision!

make berto/clottey thats another interesting one!!

I honestly believe Margarito is holding out for a fight with either de la Hoya or Mayweather. He's delusional, eventually he'll realize those fights will probaly never happend and he'll be forced tosink or swim.

We've been pretty hard on Margarito, and desevedly so. But, I think he'll eventually come around. I think he spent so much time waiting for a big win, now that he has it he's gotten a little too big for his underdraws. When the arena is half empty against Mosley, and the PPV number$ from the Cotto fight aren't what he and the Bpnfather project. He'll come back down to earth and realize he's not yet in a position to handpick his opponents, and he has to fight real fights.

I'll give him a pass on Cotto, Mosley, and Clottey if he doesn't want to fight them at the moment. But there's no excuse for him to be doing what he's doing concerning Williams. Funny how the Mexican Warrior only managed to muster the testicular fortitude to fight a washed-up Mosley and a Cotto who he's all ready KO'd.
