Why Margarito Won't Rematch Paul Williams

There has been a lot of talk as of late about this rematch and why it isn't happening.

Some have suggested that Margarito is "scared" of facing Williams again, while others claim that Margarito is looking for a big payday first.

The latest issue of the Ring magazine features Margarito on the cover and contains an in-depth interview with him. In the interview, Margarito makes it clear that he's looking for MONEY.

Here are a couple of quotes:

On his desire to face Delahoya

"It's the fight I want, and the fight that I think I deserve. Everyone wants to fight Oscar for the money, and I do think I deserve a big payday. If it were up to me, I'd fight Oscar for the money."

On his plans if he doesn't get the Oscar payday

"If I don't get Oscar, I have to look at unifying the belts and make everyone come to me. That's the only choice I think I'll have for big-money fights"

On facing Paul Williams again

"I don't think the money is there for another Paul Williams fight. Mosley may mean a little more money, but he's always said he doesn't want to fight me"

Its clear that Margarito isn't getting the Delahoya fight, so it looks like he'll seek to unify.

But it doesn't appear that he's interested in unifying his former WBO belt because there isn't enough money in it for him to face Williams again.

Mosley said after the Mayorga fight that Margarito wasn't in his radar. He wants fights that pay more with less risk. He don't even wanna try Berto.

Last I heard Mosley didn't want any part of that. Is that just speculation or you got something tangible?

Dude, look up the word unification in the dictionary and tell me what it means. Can you do that Slick? You raised a hypothetical situation. Margarito is scheduled to fight Clottey next. If he takes Clottey's belt then a Williams / Clottey fight means nothing. Now put that little rock in your crack pipe and smoke it. Or go learn how this sport actually works before you run off at the mouth. LOL! How's that for keeping up?

Maybe it doesn't make any sense to you for whatever reasons ????

I predicted Margarito/Cotto II and or Margarito/Mosley would happen before a Williams fight, it's common sense.

But Williams is the one fighting a nobody in a different weight division.

If Williams wants to be the man at Welterweight, he should fight a combination of Clottey, Cintron and Berto, 2 of those 3 while Tony fights what he already has pencilled in.

It's in his hands if he wants to leave the division ...

As far as Williams fighting Clottey, its a good fight because its a unification but I see Williams winning that. I don't think Clottey can hurt Williams and that will be the difference.

You're forgetting that Clottey is fixin to lose his belt and there won't be anything left for Williams to take from him. Not even his innocence. Clottey's gonna get raped by Margarito in the rematch.

For a name like sensetalk. You aren't making any sense. How is that in Williams hand. Williams is being pushed to the back. And your saying its in Williams hands whether he wants to wait around? Thats bogus.

As far as Williams fighting Clottey, its a good fight because its a unification but I see Williams winning that. I don't think Clottey can hurt Williams and that will be the difference.

I read today about a possible Clottey/Williams match up.

That's a pretty good fight for both. I think Williams wins b/c he's just too busy for Clottey, who does not punch while he's being defensive.

That's exactly right. Jones has got some ghosts in his closet. I doubt he'll put forth the kind of effort needed to KO Slappy Joe.
