Mayweather vs. Marquez nearly set for July 18

MAYWEATHER VS. MARQUEZ NEARLY SET FOR JULY 18?

Sources close to the situation have just informed us that it's looking more and more like retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. will make his return this summer against WBA & WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather was originally rumored to make his return on July 11, the same date as UFC 100, against an opponent yet to be named. Apparently, after much debate over the weight at which the fight would take place, both Mayweather and Marquez are now close to agreeing to face each other on July 18.

Fingers crossed im not too sure of Degale though I think he thinks too much of himself and that may harbour him learning the ways of the pro game.

To be fair carl Froch did well to get a result against JT but a harder hitter may well take him to the canvas and leave him there.

::::::::::::::::::Jack, I agree. He punishes either, but do you think that either Manny or Hatton (or Marquez for that matter) is the fight he should be looking at to cement his legacy? Even taking into consideration that Marquez is a tune-up, would you agree that he'd be better off taking Manny or Hatton II as a tune up and then fighting one of the top welters?:::::::::::::

NC,

After last night, what do you think now...?

Well Matty...

there's nothing really to say.

The Brits are on the verge, of being removed from teh boxing scene......

Pac wiped his ass with Hatton....Haye's gonna get scalped by Wlad....and Joe C won't fight anyone who isn't WELL past their prime.

Just see it for what it is and jump on the bandwagon, hailing the new emergence of the American Fighter (primarily Williams...Jacobs....Kirkland.....Mayweather....Ward...etc...etc...etc.)

American Boxing (Hopefully) is on the rise again...

yep me too,

The thing that is disappointing is that Ricky is now finished , Joe C has retired so who do we have left to banter with our American friends about now?

I have really enjoyed the banter with the ricky and joe c haters, its been fun. I just cant get hyped for Carl froch or David Haye. I like khan and I m hoping hes gonna do something but im feeling a bit flat over this.

THE ONLY GUY WHO HAS AVOIDED ANY CHALLENGE HAS BEEN MAYWEATHER WE ALL KNOW THAT... WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MAYWEATHER GROUPIES....NOW HE SHOW HOW GUTLESS HE IS BY TAKING A FIGHT WITH A SMALLER MAN THAT HAS NEVER FOUGHT AT 140..... MARQUEZ IS GREAT BUT HAS NEVER TOUCHED THE 140 LB WEIGHT.....HE SHOULD AHVE GOTTEN A WARM UP FIGHT... I HOPE HE CAN PROVE ME WRONG I JUST DONT SEE HOW HE CAN CARRY THE WEIGHT... PACMAN DID IT BUT HE IS A SUPERB ATHLETE UNDENIABLY GREAT....MAYWEATHER HE MAD EHIS MARK AT WELTER BY FIGHTING HAS BEENS AND OLD FIGHTERS......NOW HE WANTS A FIGHT WITH A SMALLER FIGHTER SO HE CAN MAKE THE PFP LIST.....WHAT A CHUMP!!!!! I HOPE MARQUEZ THAT YOU CARRY THE WEIGHT AND PUT A SURPRISING ASS WHOOPING ON THE BIGGEST BOXING FRAUD ON EARTH.....MARQUEZ VS PACMAN 3 NOW THATS A FIGHT OF TWO GREAT FIGHTERS WHO DESERVE THEIR PFP CREDIT... UNLIKE THE MOST OVER RATED FIGHTER IN PBF!!!!

I DONT JUDGE FIGHTERS BASED ON MY LOVE OR HATE FOR THEM I DONT LOVE OR HATE THEM....I JUST LOVE THE SPORT AND I CALL IT HOW I SEE IT......

He could have proved that before by facing Cotto, Mosley and Margarito... But got too scared, reason for his retirement...
Dont be surprised if Floyd retires after fighting JMM win or loose. Cause Cotto and Mosley are still around, with Manny Pacquiao added to the line up...

Why , Why , Why I just cant see the point in this fight. If PFB is coming back surely he should be going for Manny, Is he coming back to prove hes still the best and if so surely he has to fight Manny at 140.

Boxing needs best boxers fighting each other!... Not avoiding each other! (Rampant ducking that happened at years 2006-2007).

He'll fight Manny...

It's been awhile for Floyd - He's entitled to a tune-up...which is what The Marquez bout is about.

It wouldn't help Floyd, to come back and chose some club fighter to blow out (like Cotto did w/ Jennings).

He's needs someone with some skill, to help him finetune again.

Relax Matty :-D ... Pac and Mayweather are on an unchangeable collision course.

the thing that is a huge difference in this fight vs floyd than vs pac...is that marquez is an experienced counter-puncher with a warrior's heart facing another masterful counter-puncher. the speed wont be a factor at all. it will be who chooses to take a step outside their comfort zone an go on the offensive...which i think will be marquez.

at the moment, i see this one being a very close dec win for floyd. floyd will sweep the early rounds but marquez will make a push & make it close late.
