There hasn't been any convo this week on this bantamweight fight tonight. If you didn't see it, it was definitely a Fight of the Year canidate. It finished with Perez taking Agbeko's IBF belt by UD. There was a controversal KD in the 10th, and I thought the judges cards were a little wide. However, I thought Perez landed the clearer punches in the fight and deserved the decision. The top of the bantamweight division is filled with unheard off fighters here in the US. And they probably won't come over here to fight the other top guys. Montiel is fighting in the division, and he's set to fight Gerry Penesola in Dec. And P4P elite Donaire is fighting now at 115, and I would love to see him fight either Perez or Agbeko, although I think he would stop both. That being said, I think this fight warrents a rematch and I hope Showtime puts it together.

He is the walking, breathing definition of an awkward fighter. I think a rematch is the most obvious case ... perhaps Darchinyan moves up for Perez because it's an easy and saleable fight to make ... but a rematch far more likely. Hozumi Hasegawa has a pretty good run going of beating solid opponents, but of course he is unknown in the US (not a huge problem since bantamweights are not well known period) and moreover the IBF is not recognized in Japan (so no unification fight buzz in Japan).

The only other guys out there to fight are Montiel or Donaire, if he decides to move up to bantam. They're rated 4 and 5 by The Ring at bantam. But the guys rated above them are unknown in the US. Caballero is in need of an opponent at 122. He's fought on Showtime a couple times. Wonder if Perez or Agbeko would be interested in going up to fight him.

Headbutting looked mutual, just a ton of activity ... they'll do it again, really who else would they fight? That said, both did good enough to stay on Showtime's radar.

They are from the same gym, so they might be cut from the same mold. One of my best friends is from Ghana. I had a little fun with him Sunday at the expense of his countryman.

I just finished watching the fight and thought Perez deserved the decision, but I discounted the KD in my scoring - Byrd dropped the ball a bit on that one, but understandably. Anyway, I had 115-113, but was I the only one who thought that Perez looked a full division or 2 larger than Agbeko?

I wonder if anybody in Agbeko's corner had seen Perez before . He won that match convincingly.

> I like that Perez schooled Agbeko. It makes my > original statement that Darch was an overrated > windbag a little truer now. Schooled is a bit much - the scorecards were way too wide, but the decision was not incorrect. Great fight, crazy work rate ... solid FoTY contender. The knockdown was bogus, but Byrd was blinded, so I don't really blame him. If replay is implemented successfully in Nevada for the test cases they are using, I expect that this call will eventually become part of it - there was just no way for Byrd to see the head clash. Hozumi Hasegawa is probably the other top dog at 118, but the IBF is not recognized in Japan, so the juice of a unification is not there. 118 is not a stacked division, I think a rematch is definitely a possibility as is a fight with Darchinyan, who is still a bigger name than either Agbeko or Rojas. Darchinyan is a windbag, but the streak he was on at 115 was legit - his claim to the best at the lower weight is solid, just lost to a bigger dude.
