* Why would Joe Cortez even be in the running to ref the fight? Just get Bayless, he's good. If Cortez refs the fight, I'm buying a trailer and moving to Jabasthehut's trailer park compound. He needs to vent, i'll be close by. *

Sometimes you have to hold your cool in these threads because the lines are drawn. Respect is earn. How does one get respect?.....By giving it back.

And BTW, he's a real jerk for making that kid who works in the gym sleep on the floor. I pretty sure Joke's made enough money to get the kid a rollout cot or something. He didn't even have any covers or a pillow. That's f*cked up.

My biggest issue is that the bigger Pac has gotten, the bigger assh*le Roach has become. And on top of that. He tends to believe nowadays that he's some kinda genius because he's figured out that dehydrated fighters are easy marks. He needs to get over himself. Becasue the second Pac either retires, or gets his ass kicked again. Roach is back to being a second rate, funny looking cat that lives next door to his gym.

OR SEEING MANNY PAC BEING COUNTED OUT BY a Cotto body shot and seeing shaky roach blaming everyone but himself.

Don't play the race card, the most experienced ref needs to be there. Remember, Richard Steele ....... and Meldrick Taylor ? The brother robbed the brother. Manny may catch a break with Cortez trying to catch everything Cotto does.

> Cortez is a fair Ref. I doubt he'll be an issue in this fight. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As a professional boxing referee, I think Joe Cortez will do his job professionally and with integrity. Nonetheless, the world boxing public won't think that it's fair to have a Puerto Rican referee for Pacman's match-up against a Puerto Rican fighter...

Tony Weeks, Bayliss or Drakulich are good choices. The race issue must be raised when it comes to the third man in the ring. This is a superfight. To erase any doubts as to the fairness of refereeing/handling the fight, a referee from a neutral country must be chosen. Since the above-mentioned referees are neither Filipinos nor Puerto Ricans and all have championship experiences, they are best qualified for the job. With all due respect to Joe Cortez, out of DELICADEZA or to avoid any suspicion on his part, he must inhibit himself from officiating such a superfight, involving a fellow Puerto Rican. Paying fans must have a right to say on this matter, and as a paying fan, I want to see a good, clean fight, to be officiated fairly by a neutral-credible referee. -- Edited by tarantadome at 10/13/2009 5:52 PM PDT

Bayless is okay, he's a down to earth kinda of guy. Smoger is kinda freaky. He lets the fighters beat the crap out of each other; at times a bit too long. Cortez is suffering from early signs of Dementia and Alzheimer's disease. I don't like his grandstanding, when he says, "I'm firm but I'm fair". Has anyone ever told Cortez, that's not about him. My pick for the Pac/Cotto bout is either Tony Weeks or Pat Russell. Both possess knowledge and passion for the sport. -- Edited by ShowDaBoxing at 10/13/2009 8:06 AM PDT

> Why would Joe Cortez even be in the running to ref the fight? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yeah, it isn't right that a Puerto Rican Joe Cortez to be designated the referee when Pacman fights against the Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto. Although, even if the Puerto Rican referee Joe Cortez won't be biased in favor of the Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto, the world boxing public would still perceive that the Puerto Rican referee Joe Cortez will be leaning in favor of the Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto, after all, they're both Puerto Ricans...
