I think the whole moving back down in weight is a built in excuse for Mayorga who knows he's not big enough or skilled enough to beat Vargas.

Well said, Doop...
Mayo's inching his way toward desparation, but he was definitely a lot of fun before the Trinidization of his nervous system.
I expect Vargas to put some holes in his fuselage by around the 4th.

both fought tito and oscar and both got knocked out, the only difference is vargas was much more competitive. i will say it again i think vargas pulled mayorgas bitch card. he found someone as loco as he is if not more.

On a recent conference with the media, Ricardo Mayorga predicted victory over his Sept 8. opponent, Fernando Vargas, and said that he plans to move down in weight to pursue bouts with WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto and former three-division champion Shane Mosley. Mayorga and Vargas collide at a catch-weight of 162-pounds at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Showtime PPV will televise.
Mayorga has fought at junior middleweight and middleweight, but feels that the welterweight limit of 147-pounds is his best weight. He claims to only be taking the Vargas bout to score a knockout over a fighter he truly dislikes.
"I'm going to come down for (Miguel) Cotto, Mosley and anybody who wants to fight. I'm ready for them. That's my weight class. I'm doing this to knock out this guy and go back to my weight class and beat anyone that’s there," Mayorga.
Mayorga also wants a bout with WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr., but is not certain about fighting the man he already beat twice, WBC junior middleweight champ Vernon Forrest.
"Floyd Mayweather is the one I really want to fight. I take Cotto off the list because Mosley is going to beat him. If not, I will beat him after. But he's going to beat him. I'm taking him out of the list," Mayorga said. "Vernon? That one I haven't thought about it – because, first of all, he’s my son. I send my son to win the title. Now that he got it, I just have to show up and knock him out again and get my title back. That's an easy one. Whenever he wants to do it."

Showtime is doing a 30-minute Countdown show for the fight.
Even though they are just distributing it.
Did they purchase the licensing rights for all the Vargas footage from HBO? Why would HBO give them clearances?

heh. that ish was funny. i dont speak much spanish but i do know all the curse words & such......good thing it was on showtime....but then again, i dont think the fcc speaks spanish.

vargas has decent skills as a former olympian and he can bang at this weight. mayorga has been ko'd by bigger guys at this weight. i have no reason to believe that this won't end in the same result.

Vargas was blasted by Mosley at 154. When has Shane showed ko power even at 147? Mayorga dispite being at a weight he shouldn't be, will have a solid chance to do the same. But I'll go with Vargas by middle to late round stoppage.

Come to think of it Mayorga probably takes a harder punch than Vargas but still Vargas is much more skilled and did better against Tito, DLH, beat Winky a long time ago and fought Shane Mosley twice in two good fights.

Vargas is Shot. Mayorga was simply caught by a sharp shooter in the De La Hoya fight. Vargas had NOTHING in the Mosely fight, and was KO'd by a smaller man. Vargas will be like a deer in headlights when Mayorga cracks him. It will be VERY easy for Mayorga to lure him into a shootout, which Mayorga will win. Mayorga always runs his mouth, and usually wins, u have to be an elite sharp shooter to beat Mayorga, and Fargas is NOT. Fargas looked like he had a few people with him when he charged Mayorga, but I think Mayorga got in his head. I mean he called him fatty, and Vargas had to rip off his shirt, which made him look silly. Mayorga by Knockout.
