In Season 2 Scudder take extreme measures to hide his identity and "quit playing". He even asks Management why he couldnt stop. My point is that no one here knows where all of this is going. Scudder, Management, Ben, Justin, Sophie, what are they all working toward. Why is it that Scudder wanted no part of what was going on? As an Avatar, Scudder was dark, but as a man he seemed to be ok. As a man Scudder quit. Also, Scudder had knowledge of something that was alluded to very briefly. A document that I didnt recognize until I read the "DaVinci Code" and saw many documentaries that accompanied the movies release. My point is that maybe Scudder had good reason to "stop playing". I would like to hear any and all opinions.

Hey Pureuncut, Okay I'm choosing my flowers and ordering my wedding dress from Vera Wang. The date? when season Three Carnivale explodes back onto HBO (don't feel too safe here, I've heard rumors that it may) One day at work (I work big touristy area) some guy from HBO told me it would return in 2007--but maybe he just saw my wet expression of hope and took pity on me. I have a distinct dislike of the ordinary so the romance and sheer beauty of Carnivale was like magic on steroids for me. I would have washed their dishes, cooked their food, I would've been a pretty good roustie. I would never complain. Just let me smoke a cig on the warm nights, hear the bright squeals from the ferris wheels, smell the acts in the hot tents, that old perfume of lost desire. If I could've stepped thru the TV....(sigh) But I was also captivated by the NEW AMERICA....(party? religion?)The rabid ticket of the Templeton/Crowe elite. Watching the dreamy migrant machine...the (what do they call us now? oh yes, "useless eaters")whole idea of the coming demise of an empire that they just knew would last forever. To watch that evolve in this program would have been thrilling. I will always believe this angle helped to kill the show. Ah, well. Well you really dodged a bullet when you missed that proposal didn't you...whew..lol. Take care Pureuncut, good talkin' to you (I've been doing all the talking!) Hope to hear from you soon.......Hawkins

You may be 100% right. Maybe Scudder lied to Ben, maybe he did do everything out of selfishness and maybe he was a coward. You and I both know this is what sucks about the cancellation. Everything is unanswered. > There goes Hawkins again, blah blah blah. Good to be > talking about Carnivale again and not just > cancellation. Also, Pureuncut has been writing for > long time here. Not to want everything you do in life to damage or kill people? Management was obsessed with his role as an avatar - just the opposite of Scudder. > There goes Hawkins again, blah blah blah. Maybe Scudder had the cancellation memo from HBO, ha! Sorry. Scudder was a coward. He ran from his wife, his son and his lover. The only decent thing he ever did was to appreciate the beauty of his son. Only after meeting Ben did he attempt to face his demons. Now Management, Management was beautiful, elegant, almost wondrous. Had he been whole, Management would have remained to carry through. I think Management knew this life was not his, perhaps his reward lay elsewhere. Scudder was always out for himself. There goes Hawkins again, blah blah blah. Good to be talking about Carnivale again and not just cancellation. Also, Pureuncut has been writing for long time here. I asked (him?) to marry me once because (he?) wondered if Carnivale might have been cut because of touchy subject matter (ie extreme religious neocon of Bro Justin) I wondered same all along. (He) never got back to me tho! Ha. Thanx all. Bye. Hawkins

Hi, PureUncut - welcome to the Carnivale boards! There are a bunch of us who hang out on the "Season 2" board, and we love to have stuff to discuss. Don't be put off by the personal stuff we talk about there - "on topic" subjects are always very welcome! > In Season 2 Scudder take extreme measures to hide his > identity and "quit playing". He even asks Management > why he couldnt stop. My point is that no one here > knows where all of this is going. Scudder, > Management, Ben, Justin, Sophie, what are they all > working toward. Why is it that Scudder wanted no > part of what was going on? As an Avatar, Scudder was > dark, but as a man he seemed to be ok. As a man > Scudder quit. > I think Scudder was basically a good man. Imagine learning that you were born to be a source of evil in the world, battling with your opposite number all your life, and you have no choice, no free will. I have wondered if Scudder's attempt to ignore his avatar heritage and be a man is a foreshadowing of where Justin's character may go in the future. > Also, Scudder had knowledge of something that was > alluded to very briefly. A document that I didnt > recognize until I read the "DaVinci Code" and saw > many documentaries that accompanied the movies > release. My point is that maybe Scudder had good > reason to "stop playing". I would like to hear any > and all opinions. The document that was mentioned briefly, I think may be very important to the future story. I think it was the source of the "snake ritual" Scudder participated in. The snake ritual is said (by the creator Dan Knauf) to have given Scudder a broader understanding of his role as an avatar. Maybe after that, Scudder just walked away. -- ---------------------------- Click here to see what's new in "Marion's New York." http://www.marionsnewyork.com/Whats%20New.htm
