Yikes...just dodged that mule patty! Something that was a point of concern 20 years ago when I studied International Development was the question of "What would happen to the world economy if Mexico bailed on the 'debt' it had accrued with the USA?" I just wonder what would happen if they really put their mind to stopping 'the flow of illegal immigrants' ( bringing the economy to the 'here and now') Where would Walmart be then? lol and Hee Haw! ( before I start spewing chunks of lunch from my stomach, heart and lungs .....hope the vomitus doesn't stain my dingy sense of idealism, eh?)

I too was astounded when I first learned about this process. I think that the electoral college thing has layed a major role in the lack of enthusiasm many Americans have for the voting process. "Why should we vote? My vote will possibly be vetoed anyway. It doesn't matter how I feel about the issues, or the candidate, or what the hell's happening in my life. My opinion doesn't matter." I think that we should all be counted as individuals in this regard. Fuck the electoral college. Sorry for the profanity so early in the day, but I feel very strongly about this. So, how 'bout that weather today, huh? :D Love, Kat

Minerva, So do I. (Australia. Of course, it's also mandatory.) The problem here, I think, is often the electoral college thing. When I first heard about it, I just couldn't believe it. You mean your individual vote doesn't really mean anything? I know people in New York who feel very strongly about this election, but may not even bother to vote, because New York is so strongly Democratic that they feel one more or less Democratic won't make a difference. T was saying the other day that Kansas is just the opposite. Why oh why can't we come up with a way to vote directly? This is absurd! > I come from a country where almost ALL of our > citizens vote. > > We, like many other countries, are buffeted by your > countries policies, actions, and inactions. > > I am simply baffled by your low voting rate.....it's > like you don't even care what happens in your own > country, much less elsewhere.... and you have so much > control over world events whether you realize it or > not. > > You know, it might be the time to take the 9-11 decal > off your car, and launder the flag hanging on the > doorway, and think about the world we all want to > leave to our children. > > Because, although 'America' is built upon the highest > human values, it's application , both overt and > covert, is a travesty of freedom, happiness, dignity, > and tolerance these days. > > And that's a God damn shame, and waste of human > potential. > > ( and this is what I meant about 'Canadians, > political discussions, and the weather'......we have > a crazy notion that we have some control over > politics.....or the future... so we don't shy away > from talking about governmental and world matters. Or > voting either. Discussing the weather is a different > deal entirely. > > That might cause a fight eh? lol)

E! - I just love this! Except for the last one - it only leaves 5 of us in the country to vote. > So here goes, the EVIL! I cannot help but think that I triggered that comment! Damn, the truth is a long story. Twenty years ago I thought marching in the streets with the homeless to demonstrate their right to vote was a good idea. I cajoled, I bribed, I threatened. I gave extra credit which could be used as criteria for an extended stay at the shelter. I tried. It is the perfect example of busy work. Because I was wrong. > and PS > > If your government is off around the world squashing > governments, training 'freedom fighters', and killing > people in the name of spreading Democracy, I think > you should educate even your most limited and > deprived citizens to the extent that they may > freaking VOTE with a 'sound mind' eh? > see above > In the interest of promoting the concept that we are > all created equal, and endowed by our Creator, and > all that rot. > In middle age, I find that local activities are more meaningful and more effective. I have no control of the man in the whitehouse. Nor congress, nor the senate. On a good day, I can control my own behavior. > Because I hold these truthes to be self evident.... > > > Peace Ditto. But some people do not feel equal.
