Right now would be the PERFECT time for HBO to bring back Carnivale. HBO's cash cow, The Sopranos, has come to a end (and a quite unsatisfying end at that). The rest of the HBO-made series all royally suck. Entourage, Big Love, John From Cincinnati, Extras, etc. They are all unwatchable and unentertaining. Even Curb Your Enthusiasm has gone down the tubes. HBO, please get your heads out of your collective derriers and bring back Carnivale. At the very least, produce two or three more hours of this brilliant show to tie up the loose ends and give it a proper conclusion.

In response to the statement above, the only way a proper conclusion could be had for Carnivale is if is given the originally intended six seasons. Anything other than that would cause a jumbled, unsatisfying and completely butchered ending. It would be like telling Nostradamus that he had only two pages for which he could document his predictions. Creative genius is better left untapped than to be edited and controlled and that is exactly what Daniel Knauf decided to do with his brilliant fictional story of the fate of mankind. This was the best television show to ever be created and the significance of the subject matter was bold and an edgy. The telling of the Apocalypse with the fate of the world resting on the shoulders of two avatars; half men and half divine creations that are gifted with abilities to heal and manipulate events to his will. This part of the story is only a fraction of how deep the plotlines runs, truly genius to depict the end times being completely in the hands of these two men. For me, I found that it was actually a believable and plausible telling of what happened during those times. Why not, huh? There could have been magic back then, an example being the talents of Edgar Casey, the most important physic of the twentieth century, possibly of all time. His foretelling occurred during the 20's, 30's, 40's and some years after. To repeat what the character Reverend Norman Balfis said in the first or second episode, "In times of desperation the Good Lord looks over his flock and chooses one man to lead the multitudes, one man to inspire the desolate, one man to make his will be done." Last thing I will say about this show, for anyone looking for a show that posses nothing of the typical trash that is aired than you should give this show a chance. You must keep in mind that this is not like the network shows that give you exact explanations of plotlines right away, you have to be patient and allow the story to unfold, it is truly worth it. Bring back Carnivale.

JFC, Lucky Louie, Deadwood, Rome, Carnivalle. I think you see a trend here. These are all shows that ended abruptly with no closure what so ever. I have invested a great deal of my time to follow these programs and watch them develop, only to have them canceled with no closuer. I refuse to get involved in another new series only to find the same outcome once I have become hooked. It is one thing to end a well liked show with a planned ending that "makes sense" but to just drop a show mid plot, or in many cases at the height of the action..... I also understand that not all new series will be big hits and should be expected to continue, but with a show like JFC, the management at HBO must understand that it will generate a certian "cult following" and that energy and enthusiasm will grow into more viewers with time and word of mouth.

I have been a subscriber to HBO for years, and was a big fan of shows like the Soprano's, Sex in the City, Dennis Miller Live, and Ali G. The termination of these shows is understandable, and was done properly, giving the fans an ending for all of their invested time.

I have a collection of DVD's exceeding 400 copies, and have no need to spend money for a television network in order to see movie content. For all of the above reasons, I have canceled my subscription to the HBO service after almost 2 decades of being a subscriber. I just feel you need to know the reasons for this cancellation as I surely will not be the only lost subscriber due to your recent trend.

I will continue to purchase HBO original series on DVD once they gain a track record as a "stable" program, but refuse to hand over a monthly service fee to a company who has a blatant disregard for viewers opininons or feelings.

If HBO can repair its current track record by bringing back some of these hit programs (deadwood, carnivale, lucky louie, JFC) I wll happily resume my status as a subscriber, but have no intention of doing so until you prove to me the viewers voices have been heard, are respected, and you have learned from your mistakes.

Thank you,

Steve Brauner
X-HBO 2 decade subscriber.

Just finished watching season 2...

I am so saddened to know that this show is no more.

Great show, I wish there was some way it could come back.

My fiancee and I just finished watching the second season, and were both immediately crushed to find that there was no third. The main page says that Mrs. Strauss says: "We feel the two seasons we had on the air told the story very well...". I'm inclined to agree, but the story was never FINISHED. The final episode was full of loose ends, and leaves the viewer desperately wishing to know what happened to the characters involved. Also, it ended on a complete cliffhanger concerning the main storyline, as though a third season was being prepared. Sad, to see such a wonderfully created story, cast, and atmosphere go to waste - even more of a shame that HBO cares not for those who watch and love their programming.

I, for one, will miss Carnivale, and would love to see some attempt at its revival in the future.

I loved watching Carnivale when it was first aired by HBO.
For the second season, there was no ads as to when it would start.
This is like most programs. Either they get pre-empted to death and people can follow it. Or they move around the night it is aired.
I have just gotten to see the second season. Really miss the whole program.
But then I was an original fan of Star Trek on NBC-what a mistake that they canceled it.
I also liked Studio 60-but good plots, clever writing and good actors are not what is 'cost effective' in todays
Wal-Mart television.
Fast, cheap and slick=pseudo reality programs.
Dumb to Dumber! Television is like Congress. People and polls reflect what people want, they ignore that and do whatever they want to.

BRING IT BACK!

Are you guys owned by Costco or something? They're famous for getting you hooked on something, then discontinuing it. Carnivale could be a Twilight Zone-esque classic.

I have to admit that I am pretty pissed that they didnt come out with a 3rd season, the first two were so awesome! Me and my husband just started watching it and we both absolutely loved it!! It was something different than all the other HBO shows and shows on other stations that basically have the same plots and storylines. Carnivale was completely original and captivating, I've never seen anything like it and they finally come out with a new and creative show and then snuff it before its truly ended!! So stupid.

I'm with you beebee23, I have been a fan since I got a glimpse of the unfolding story around episode four; rewatched the first three and was so hooked on this show that some say I was/am obsessed....

Hi all.

I just absorbed practically the entire Carnivale series in one DVD sitting this past weekend, and well, wow! I've never seen a show quite like this before and was shocked and horrified that it was canceled. After reading up on the various possibilities of continuing the story (comic book, tv movie, etc), all I can think is that now would be a PERFECT time for HBO to restart the series (not that it's ever going to happen...) My thinking is, a show like this has to be watched in sequence and close together in time. I am pretty sure it got so-so ratings at the time because episodes were too slow (thanks alot MTV) and a bit confusing (otherwise known as mystery) so people didn't watch because the DVD experience is much more rewarding... but the thing is, once you reach that critical number of episodes, you're hooked, and then you can handle and really enjoy the way the show takes its time.

My point is that it's been a couple years, which means that A LOT more people have probably sat down and watched the DVDs and gotten hooked in a way they couldn't before and (like me) are probably dying to continue along with the story. I bet if HBO brought the show back, viewership would be much higher than it ever was. I realize actors and everyone working on the show have moved on, but it wouldn't be impossible... especially as I read online some where that the second story arc takes place a few years down the line in 1939-1940 and then the third at the end of WWII.

Would it be that crazy to air a series differently than the norm? eg, 2 seasons followed by a 2 year hiatus each time? Especially since a lot of new TV series this days are sequential narratives (ie. long movies - and we all know how much $$$ sequels rake in) and very different entities to traditional TV shows. That 2 year break can only mean increased viewship when the show returns given the right marketing... TV content is changing, so programming/scheduling/marketing execs better start coming up with equally creative new business models to support them or every great new creative masterpiece is going to face premature cancellation.

anyways, here's hoping all is not lost yet...

peace out,
bee

hey guys, I wrote a blog post about Carnivale, and how disappointed I was that it was cancelled years ago. I think you guys may enjoy reading it! You can see the post by going to:

Please comment to the post as well! I want to know what you guys think. AND I get a considerable amount of people reading it, so hopefully they can read your comments too, and perhaps--- be turned onto the show!
