Valerie worries that her comeback storyline isn't "enough," as the network tries to spice up her reality show by cross-breeding it with another one--and by pulling a highway prank that nearly sabotages Valerie's lunch with a TV Guide editor. At home, Mark is increasingly frustrated by the restraints the ubiquitous cameras have made on the couple's sex life.

The show is such a trainwreck it is hard not to watch. Its like watching a car race - anticipating the wreck. The same principle applies here. Every week I watch (casually) to see Valerie make an ass out of herself in some new way. Has HBO ever cancelled a show after one season? This show may be a strong contender.

I completely agree with you although I wouldn't go as far as you with the Guest analogy. He is a genius, as another poster rightfully pointed out, and this show is entertaining, but not quite genius. The criticism the show has been receiving reminds me of peoples outpouring of bile during Curb Your Enthusiasm's first season. That show was also an acquired taste and thankfully I eventually submitted. I agree this show has the same feel and I LOVE the "no laugh track" thing. Believe it or not, I read somewhere that HBO is developing or has developed a sitcom where-in they will actually use one of those loathesome laugh tracks. Shows like Curb, Arrested, & Reno 911 have ruined me for laugh tracks. I can hardly stomach them now and kind of wish that shows like Seinfeld would offer you the option of turning them off. I remember not long after I got into Curb, watching an episode of Seinfeld that I love and getting a headache from the overly loud & incessant track. I still LOVE Seinfeld, don't get me wrong. But I would much prefer it without the laugh track. I don't need to be told when to laugh. Message was edited by izzird1 at Jul 18, 2005 2:39 PM

I gave the show a 3 episode chance, every minute more painful to watch than the last. I like Lisa, but her character makes my arm hair stand up on end, almost like nails on a chalk board. It's like HBO's goal with this was to become like one of those ultra annoying car commercials... so bad that it at least gets a reaction and is remembered.

It's impossible for a show to be successful unless you have a character people want to emotionally invest in.

Please, please put this show out of it's misery. Lisa Kudrow, what were you thinking? Entourage and Six Feet Under are so good. You want to have the Entourage group for dinner just to hear the banter. Brilliant casting and writing.

mmmmm.....personally i love this show....it is in the vein of "curb your enthusiasm" and " arrested development." i think this is a different angle for television and i find it refreshing. the camera angles rock, the lack of audience laughter only adds to the ambience of the show. like christopher guest's movies, this show just has a different approach to humor...amusing, sad, pathetic, self-deprecating....i love it...

Well that's what she got with me. After the 3rd show I quit watching. The show doesn't cut it. I know good shows when I see them. This just is not one of them.

Wow, I don't think I could ever come up with a more horrible group of shows. But I am glad SFU made it back to Sundays. BBC America is > going to start showing that "Footballers Wives", then > Entourage AND The Comeback! WoW!

Hey Ed2vii, I'm glad there are some fans of the show. I myself am getting more people into it. A friend of mine who was a HUGE Friends fan and felt that Kudrow was the weak link on that show, didn't want to see it, but I convinced him and he LOVES it! Many of these people denigrating the show are sheep just following the herd (the press). And I would bet any amount of money they haven't even given the show a fair shot. The first couple of eps were the weakest and I think the show has gotten better and better. So I'm sure Tom Shales' review would be positively glowing by now. What is this show "Footballers Wives"? I never heard of it, but am always willing to try something different. Btw, I also LOVE Entourage and think Jeremy Piven is FANTASTIC!

I think with Sunday nights episode, we're going to see if Valerie continues on Room & Bored. It's so funny that of all the actors, Val is going to be the one to cheer everyone up. I can see it now, her hair flinging and her " I don't want to see that " hands. What happened to the link that was going to allow us to ask Michael Patrick King questions? My Sunday night keeps getting better, BBC America is going to start showing that "Footballers Wives", then Entourage AND The Comeback! WoW!
