Season Finale: Valerie Does Another Classic Leno

After hosting a memorable coming-out party for the premiere of her reality show, "The Comeback," Valerie makes an even more memorable guest appearance on "The Tonight Show."

This was my favorite episode! I was so looking forward to the 2nd season. No telling what would have happened on "room and bored" after the reality series started airing.

**I read that Lance Barber (Paulie G) would have liked to have pursued Valerie (sexually) at some point.***

HBO happened to be re-playing The Comeback this week and I caught this episode again. I thought maybe I was in a bad mood or something when I watched it the 1st time and would feel different about it, if I watched it again.
Well, I tried but I only laughed once; (same spot as last time) at the barfbags. That was the save: the barfbags
Now that was humorous.:D

I gave this show a try. I watched 3 times it was not funny at all so I found something else to watch. Then just by accident happened to catch the last one. Even watched it twice, which surprised me. I did laugh that time, that one time. It was better than the first 3 but you can't wait until the last show to make your audience laugh. That's too long in between laughs. I felt more sorry for her than anything. That is not humor.

I love HBO and watch it almost exclusively. I consider the content of the network to be diverse, intelligent and very unique. I am, however, disappointed with your decision to cancel The Comeback. I think Lisa Kudrow shined in her role as Valerie Cherish, in fact I think it was her best work to date. Kudrow portrayed the multi-layered Valerie with strength and subtlety. Along with some great writing, Kudrow had viewers squirming with discomfort one moment and laughing out loud the next.

I admit after the first few episodes I was wondering if we were only going watch Valerie be humiliated each week. But, the character's strengths began to appear as the show moved on. The way we got to know Valerie reminded me of how you get to know anyone in real life, you have one impression of them, but as you get to know them more you realize they have another side (in Valerie's case her nurturing side). In this time of in your face, shock- humor and intense drama, The Comeback was a welcome break. I found myself identifying with Valerie in some ways and, on the flip side, hoping I would never be as unaware of situations as she could be! Perhaps the reason some viewers didn't like the show is because they didn't like being reminded of uncomfortable situations in their own lives.

Or, perhaps some viewers just didn't pick up on the subtlety of the show...I mean how dumb can they be?!

I used the "contact us" option at the bottom of the page. My e-mail to them was quite nasty (no profanity or anything, but still nasty) and in hindsight I probably should have been a little nicer. I seriously doubt they'll be changing their minds anyway, but I just had to vent to someone and they were the obvious choice.

I look just like you, only more so.

The Comeback was a lousy show.
It wasn't funny.
It wasn't high concept.
It wasn't art.
It was a bad TV show about a bad actress in a bad reality TV show about a bad TV show.
No one watched the show, so it got canned.
Don't get mad at me. I thought the show was so bad a la Mommie Dearest that I watched it to see how bad it could be from week to week. I was not disappointed.
Too bad, so sad, bye bye, Kudrow.

Who can we get in touch with? Anyone have any e-mail addresses of the powers that be at either HBO or Kudrow's production company?

I would just love to see what this Urbaeterna and Oxnard look like. It has me curious I must admit. Rejects from the cast or show or past; I mean in the long run who really cares, except someone with a vengance, with unfinished business and a grudge. Sad, true, and truly troubled, wrapped in jealousy. Wonder how long they(?) have been peddling their script[s]in Hollywood and are themselves, like Valerie Cherish.
Methinks the gentlemen[?] doth protest too much! Que sera. And, Sayanora. {I can see your having fun. Just take a break from studying for your finals, and get that anger out!} Nice vocabulary, keep up the good work. And, don't give up on your concept or script, it isn't always who you know.

The deluded get more deluded and the ignorant more ignorant. Hey, Mr. Orwell, is this really 1984?
Poor Urbaeterna, your bile has finally reached what little grey matter you had to start with. To begin with, what does "so few people watched" mean? As compared to what? More people watched than you think, most watched every episode more than once because there was so much depth in each episode it is best savored again and again. And, what the heck is a "hoyay" crowd? Who do you think you are, Charles Dodson? Coining words? Come on. Have the courage to say what you mean.
"Narcissistic fluff"? You looking in a mirror? No basis for that statement, except, in your case you were saying, "I don't want to see that!"
Do you know Lisa Kudrow? Have you ever met Lisa Kudrow? How insufferably arrogant and mean spirited of you to even imply that the person is anything like the character. I know Lisa Kudrow, and you, Urbaeterna, are no Lisa Kudrow. She is, in fact, sweet, kind and talented...all the things you are not. Shame on you.
I hope you meant Valerie Cherish was past her prime, because, like Miss Jean Brodie, Miss Kudrow is just coming into her prime; an unbelievably talented actress with so much depth and breadth that people actually thought Valerie Cherish was real.
Oh, you poor ignorant person. How idiotic to assume that a woman who has a shelf of Emmys and negotiated one of the most lucrative contracts in the history of television would turn into a simp with HBO "suits". They respected her. But then, you don't know from respect.
I hope that we never have to hear from you again. Not because you don't have opinions, but because you have no style, taste, intelligence or a scintilla of wit.
Ipse sticksit.

Well I guess it's official. The Comeback is done. So time to start sending your hate e-mail to the brain dead morons at HBO. I cannot believe they gave The Mind Of The Married Man two seasons and they cut The Comeback after one. Did they even promote this show? I don't even think they knew what they had. What a shame. The hoyay crowd's mewling here is becoming insufferable.

Few people liked this bit of narcissistic fluff so few people watched. Ergo, it was terminated. This upsets the hoyay crowd to no end. Big deal!

The Comeback was--I so love referring to it in the past tense!--a toothache of a show.

Kudrow's character--in this respect I have little doubt much like the real person--was decidedly unsympathetic. Past her time and blind to reality (hey, maybe THAT's why the hoyay crowd loved the show so much: they're blind to reality too).

The "I'm-just-a-completely-insecure-naif" schtick so tiresomely and unremittingly affected by Kudrow became more and more painful by the week. I take no little comfort, however, in the probablilty that she went through this for real at every meeting with the HBO suits after the show's debut. Now THAT'S funny!

HBO has a good record to date at not picking dogs but, hell, even Caesar lost a battle once in a while. Their track record is still very good and they mitigated their blunder with The Comeback by killing it off at the first opportunity.

Bravo HBO! (Just try not to make another mistake like this in the future, 'k?)

Our work here is finished.

Ipse dixit.

This show is too good to die. I would love to see Bravo pick it up. I got a lot of my friends hooked on it, and we are very upset that it might not be returning (yep, maybe I am in denial).

This show hit home on so many levels. Many times I have "Valerie moments" as the character Kudrow created really reflects the human condition in all of its needy yet nurturing behaviors. Kudrow in my opinion is a genius, a great talent, and I NEVER watched friends. The Mickey character made me laugh and cry. The show is subtle, layered, complex, painful at times, and deeply touching. To remove something so brilliant would be a terrible mistake for a network priding itself on bravery and innovation. The Comeback was/is one of a kind. It deserves another several seasons, so we can see how many ways Kudrow reflects the human condition through the eyes of a fragile and endearing everyperson.

You go Marysson. Well said...and Bravo...ah,er, maybe they would pick up this gem!!
So far, I have heard nothing of cancellation. How foolish would it be to let the talented Ms Kudrow go!!!!! [to think they renewed Joey] P.S. I bet if we did our research we might learn that Oxnard & friends are jilted-has-been-lover-wannabe's from high school days. Oh well. It does take all kinds.
I hope that HBO see's the light and extends the The Comeback.......if it is cancelled I will truly miss the originality.
I will miss the great acting of Mickey, a sweet, dear character who made our family smile, cry and welcomed into our home. Paulie G. and other wonderful, rich and interesting characters, a first!!!......hopefully we will hear and see more of those actors who were involved in this show. For now, I feel that
HBO =....Horrifying Bad Omen......
