Wow... After getting back to my house post-Katrina I've been catching up on the new series and it is thankfully worth the wait so far. I'm an old school CYE fan who hasn't posted since early season 4... must say that this episode was a *vast* improvement over last year's opener. Probably the best opener ever after Chet's Shirt. The Danson factor can't be denied: he always underplays the scenes so well. All the sandwich schtick was priceless. A very promising start.

I for one, was so happy at how good this episode was. It's hard for me to see why people didn't like. I hate when people expect to laugh at every minute of an episode. One of the reasons I love curb is because it doesn't go overboard with trying to make you laugh at all times. It sets up story lines and situations that come together at the end in a brilliant way. People who have no attention span and want mindless punchlines can go watch Friends. When the story comes full circle and Larry steals the Ted Danson sandwhich, that is pure genius. I'm so excited for this season

Hi, all Larry SUPREMACISTS!
I am with the optimists of the CYE. Look, every great artist in the world went through a crisis on different stages of his creation. The opener was not a complete disaster, for example: LD swimming phantasmagoria, Temple tickets, a couple of signature quarrels. Definitely, the show needs some new blood. May be, Cheryl considers In-Vitro or something... And here is one of the very few things on which I agree with George Bush: "Let's keep our resolve strong!"

You could have a point there, DaRizat. I have watched the entire seasons as they came out on DVD and I've never seen the show as it has been broadcast. That could be the reason I love and appreciate every episode of the show.

I've looked forward to the new season for months. I was disappointed if not angered by the season opener. Larry and the cast seemed hyper- almost nervous. Maybe they are just rusty from being off a whole YEAR and by producing just 10 shows a year. This show was not up to par.

Wow, no one should ever, ever be saying that Mel's Offer is better than this ep. Wow. I think alot of you are just going through withdrawal, and need to catch back up with the series.

Also, my other theory is that it takes some people several months to warm up to the story as a whole, as the hatred for this series was SEVERELY high at the start of season 4. For anyone that was on here last year to claim they like Mel's Offer better, well lets just go back and look at thier posts. I can almost guarantee you thier hate level was at an all time high.

Maybe you have to ingest the entire season to really appreciate every ep. I know most people are saying that they liked season 4 on here, when 99% of the people were hating on it huge last year. Maybe once the season is done, and you can relate to the entire arc, you start liking the pieces more?

Your thoughts?

The episode was a little clunky, but the scalping high holiday tickets was a great idea. He could have made a sandwich out of that idea alone! He's trying to out do himself. Instead of cramming 10 good ideas into one episode, just make MORE episodes, Larry...

i completely agree with you, i saw that larry, i think, did everything but direct this episode, anyway maybe a little too much larry for one episode, i have complete faith in the rest of the season and i think the it will be good for its own reasons, but this first episode was horrible, except for 'al capone hat' comment from larry to sussie at temple, LOLOLOLOL

I cannot get over how many people on this forum enjoyed the first episode of the fifth season. I have watched every episode of this show at least four times since its inception, and I thought this was by far the worst. Sure, there were a few cute chuckles, but if I want to watch a half hour show for six laughs, I'll watch King of Queens. The characters were not engaging, everything was forced, and where did that god forsaken music come from? The episode was pure dreck.

yeah okay, sometimes a hotdog is just a hotdog...but other times it has ketchup and mustard and relish and cheese on it...makes that hotdog taste a lot better. so what we're saying is last weeks hotdog was more like a weiner...and we're waiting for the big sausage :)

I think somebody else suggested that as well, that it was a parody of himself and his own show...but if you actually think about it...EVERY episode is a parody of Larry David, and EVERY episode makes fun of either Larry or somebody else. It's just very exaggerated, much like on Seinfeld. It's Larry 10 fold, which is why it seems like it's a mockery of itself, but that is in fact what CYE is, a mockery of society, and in essence, a mockery of itself.

Your thoughts?

Wrong term perhaps. What I meant is that the whole show was too "forced". I thought that I was watching a parody. It seemed as if he was making fun of his own show. Do you agree?
