This is like, my favorite episode. A lot of the earlier episodes in the series were a lot like Seinfeld--they were about nothing. Funny, but about nothing. Toward the end of the series, and especially in this episode, the writing gets extremely random. Like, the fact that Jesus would try to attack Larry with the cross...would that really happen in the real world? xD

And for those of you who are offended, I feel sorry for you. Anyone who can take fictional events and scripted, rehearsed shows seriously are taking it too far. Sure, there were some rude things said, but it was for the sake of comedy. I was laughing, so I think they achieved their goal.

Does anyone know why Cheryl's parents were sleeping in separate bedrooms in this EP?

I agree with 1 and 2. However, if the true believers didn't personalize the negative criticism of the show then you and I wouldn't have the distinct pleasure of making them the objects of sarcasm and derision, including ad hominem attacks and negative commentary.

Does anyone know who composed the "Domine Deus," a portion of which was played after Jesus steps on the nail and Jeff and Larry are dragging him away?

After seeing the first five episodes, I'd have to say this was the weakest so far. It was a bit more contrived and over-the-top in the vein of season 4, and I haven't really ever liked Cheryl's parents in anything beyond "Beloved Aunt" and "Baptism"... they always bring out the worst in Cheryl too. It had its moments but I'd rate it as average or a little below average.

well, i thought the christian comments made in "The Christ Nail" were very offensive and it hurt my feelings. Also offensive was the episode with the nativity scene where Larry rented the people for Cheryl after eating the cookies for the gingerbread house, he comments on "Mary's" ass...that was offensive too, so he has to be more sensitive towards Christians.

In defence of the offended:

(Biblical voice)

Consider for a moment our more easily offended brothers and sisters. O how the meek will inherit the expression of shock and outrage. They're lives are verily fraught with trial and tribulation, for every time they maketh a step outside of their front door offense and careless behaviour must dog their every step. They walk to the shops, and lo! A young couple doth kisseth each other on a bench! Bredren, is that not merely a slippery step to copulation and other disgusting activity involving contact with each other's genitals? Who will stop this unnatural activity? We must protest outside the houses of the youth, the schools, with placcards reading 'stop touching each other, and yourselves'. The easily offended member of society carries on the journey to the shops, and are confronted by the spectacle of a sports game in the park. One of the players does verily swear, and there is no way to prevent the curse word from reaching the lily white ears of the offended. And yes! they are even more offended! Blessings upon them, for truely the world is an evil place filled with bad men who do things like compete and swear and (yuck) want to win things. When will they learn to let go of such petty contrivances and join in being offended to the very gills by each and every thing which could in some way be interpreted as offensive and ill conceived?

I could go but the football's starting now,

How was it offensive? It was nothing other than tongue and cheek.....it was nothing other than comical.

He wasn't knocking Mel Gibson's movie either. He simply stated that HE wasn't going to see that one. And buying a nail off the internet is not making fun of THE PASSION...it's actually promoting it, because christ nail sales have risen since that episode.

If you were offended by this episode, then it's just hard to believe. Because I'm a christian, a catholic, and I thought it was hilarious...not offensive.

I love Larry, all the characters and am a long time fan, but The Christ Nail was really offensive to christians. It parodied the crucifixion. It was just very "sick." I realize it was an attempt to comment on Mel Gibson's the Passion. It didn't work.

Also, his treatment of the Hispanic household help was gross. Kidding around with his christian father-in-law about crossing oneself (saying Grace Before Meals)was OK, ie., do you do it every time you take a snack!! funny.

Also, I didn't like Episode 44 - "suicide" is a tough subject for humor. It is a very serious matter.

I'm afraid Larry is losing his touch. This may turn out to be his worst season. I sure hope it gets better than episodes 43 and 44.

gutsnick cited to this article:

All Rosenbaum's article proved is that he missed the joke. "Larry (as Max Bialystock) totally forgets his lines in the first scene, but even as the audience is walking out, he does a supposedly improvised comic monologue which
