Deadwood had the good sense to insist on maintaining its authenticity. In Tombstone, I think only the Bird Cage, the courthouse and a few other buildings are original, right? And when, oh when, are they gonna lose those pathetic mannequins in the dirt lot next to Fly's? Gawd. Still, it's neat to walk the same patches of ground... to walk down Fremont Street towards the vacant lot. Except.... ooops.... they put up a wall there. Overall, though, I give Deadwood higher marks. I wouldn't mind living in Deadwood.

*bump* I've found a great-great grandson of the real E.B. Farnum. He is 86 years old. I'm trying to get him to send me a photograph... Janice RE: I want to officially state that I believe I have been the first to discover the family tree of the real life E.B. Farnum. Although HBO: Deadwood states E.B.'s named to be Erastus Bailey, I have discovered that the "real life" E.B. Farnum's name was Ethan Bennett Farnam. The real life E.B. Farnman's history accurately reflects that of the E.B. Farnum that lived in Deadwood, South Dakota, and the family tree can be found at http://deadwood-sd.blogspot.com/ I welcome comments and corrections. There is no indication that the real life E.B. Farnum had similar traits or mannerisms that the HBO version of E.B. Farnum demostrated, and to the contrary, appeared to be a progressive and hardworking human being who labored both in a private and public manner to promote local laws, education and progress. My father-in-law lives in Black Mountain so we go over there a lot. I told Mr. theshriek this time we were going to stay in a hotel. Staying with relatives is NOT a vacation in my book. Anyways...everytime we go over I think what a great city it would be to retire in. There is just a nice relaxed feel to the city. -- www.theshriek.blogspot.com

Here's an interesting article recently posted on Historynet.com http://www.historynet.com/we/bl-deadwood/ This is apparently about to published in Wild West Magazine in August and covers some of the history/legends of the men of Deadwood. Not too accurate, but a good article overall. -- You got a dark turn of mind...

Bears repeating. If only to show certain trolls who write lengthy posts of DW's history as if we've never heard it before. -- ************ As capable of inconvenience and of some damage and debt to those that would act against my interests, I cannot fucking argue with dangerous. ************
