Great article on Brian Cox. He talks about his time on Deadwood and his relationship, if the show had of continued with Swearengen.
Deadwood (2006)?"Jack Langrishe"
Brian Cox: Deadwood was a great experience. Working with David Milch, who's one of the real geniuses of Hollywood. I'd seen the series, and Ian McShane, I've known for years. We didn't know each other well?we've subsequently become great friends?but we'd been around one another for 40 years. And I just thought that Ian was giving the performance of his career. The acting on that show was just second to none; it was amazing. And the scripts just dazzled. This whole look at the West and what it really constituted? David's premise was that the Hays Office kind of propagandized the old West. Because in reality, there was this mixture of the Bible and cuss words. And also the classics, because everybody was much better read than people gave them credit for. When you signed up for Deadwood, all you had was your character. You didn't know how he was going to be used. They described my character to me and told me he was someone they'd wanted to bring in from the word go, but HBO thought it would be too expensive to have a theatre and all that stuff. So they didn't bring me on until the third series, and I had a ball, I just loved it. It's not for everybody, because you have to really trust that you're going to be taken care of. I had faith that if they used the character, he was going to be used well. I was sad we didn't do a fourth series, because I felt they were about to get into my whole relationship with Swearengen, and the fact that I ended up being his only friend, and clearly was going to be the guy who ultimately was going to help with his removal. It's just a fascinating, fascinating show. A great piece of work.

Wow ,
I just logged into hbo for the first time in about a yr to see whats going on with the 2 promised movies and to see if curb is gonna have another season.
I dumped my hbo rite after the last curb season do to the fact no more sopranos, deadwood,carnivale and rome.I really gave up on the chanel after realizing that they just do not complete series very often and its basically a big downer for me since I get very into the few shows I watch.
I figure if there is ever a big buz around a show and it runs a long time I could just rent the dvd's like I did with lost.
There really is to many shows and to many chanels on to sit around and wait for hbo like we did 10 yrs ago!
well I Guess I will see whats going on at showtime since a few posters mentioned that they been having a run of good show,I guess the deadwood movies were just a smoke screen to quiet us down when the news first broke of the shows cancelation.

perhaps because in his day Hearst was known as a very powerful and unscrupulous business man, scandel, gossip and mayhem did tend to follow him....Manuevering the camp into a town would have considered much thought, it was on Indian territory and was in a delicate position, and many stood to win or loose from its movement from camp into town. The whole political process showed much thought and planning for these actors to work through this point of the series, well done, Milch had his brilliant moments for sure.....

Episode 25.
Al: "Pain-in-the-balls Heast. Running his holdings like a despot, I grant you, has a fucking logic. It's the way I'd fucking run mine. It's the way I'd run my home if I fucking had one. But there's no practical need for him to run the fucking camp. That's out of scale. It's out of proportion, and it's a warped unnatural impulse ..."
I've never completely understood why David Milch's version of George Hearst was given to this impulse. There was nothing stopping him from making all the money he wanted to make out of his mining operations in Deadwood. And yet, it seemed as if he saw the independent attitudes of the camp's residents as some sort of personal affront.
Anyways ... Al's words to Bullock set up what turns out to be the central conflict in Season Three when the question becomes not who will run what in Deadwood, but whether the camp itself would survive. That Al has this conversation with Bullock at Bullock's home gives us a glimpse of the sort of unity and cooperation necessary for that survival.
Deadwood taught me much and I'll always be grateful.

haironfire---yea, Jane is fuckin hilarious...this series was so awesome.....fuckin pass me that bottle, gettin choked up here......Bullock back in camp....a whole sense of wrongs to be righted, secure now in knowin he will take care of stuff. btw it looks like Ian has a new movie coming out, just saw ad last night.....

A great episode. Miles and Flora, Doc and Jane and Andy Cramed, Alma buries her husband, Charlie Utter sees where Bill died.

I invested in the boxed set a month or so ago because these boards had me so homesick for it (I'm usually one of those lurker types). I've since lent it out to my employees and I've fielded more than one phone call in the morning from one chef or the other asking to calling in "Deadwood". We're slow right now, so all requests have been honored, I'm happy to say. Makes for some great kitchen conversation when they come back. For those leaving on a Saturday night with a season clutched under their arm, the whole kitchen calls out "Have a very Deadwood weekend!".
Guess you'd have to be there.
OTOH, the profanity in our kitchen (never a particularly family-oriented dialogue) has been ramped up to a degree that was previously only aspired to.
It's odd, the things that make me happy.

Just saw the clip on a video website that shall go nameless (but rhymes with huge boob) that has the rapport where Al is trying to tell Wu that he needs to meet the San Francisco cocksucker. No doubt one of the funniest moments ever shown on HBO.
