Happy New Year's *cheer's* > -- > R. Hey there Riatas, How's things in your neck of the woods? I've been outta the saddle this week due to a medical thing that left me flat of my back. I really hate being this still for this long, though pain does have a way of making you be still. Looks like we've got a new sheriff in town. Hope he don't fine us too many pennies for cussing, cause I'm saving mine for my new grandson. He's 2 weeks old now and a real heart breaker. What a smile; he even farts cute (LOL) Wonder if I can find a big pig as a bank to deposit my naughty word money? I think it would be a hoot to tell him in years to come that he has a Mr. Wu piggy bank and if you get caught cussin' you feed Mr. Wu's pig some pennies. Glad you got Deadwood DVD's for Christmas. I'm ready to pull mine out and start watching again. There's just not much on tv these days. When are the studio execs gonna realize that without the writers, they are nothing? It's kind of like HBO telling Milch, "Do the cop show, David, they won't know the difference. Those people love anything you throw at them." Live and learn, live and learn. Have a great weekend, friend. -- Speak your mind but ride a fast horse.

Without much doubt, my favorite character is Charlie Utter. He's the kinda guy I'd like to know. I love to watch Al but I wouldn't want to know an Al, lol. I'd end up with a knife in the belly if I dealt with a C#cksucker like Al. Charlie is just humble but willing to give you a good old fashioned butt whooping and he never tolerates any BS. Great actor too, I could have done without him and Trixie showing up on that open-ended acid trip John from Cincinatti though. Double Yikes. I just voted for Deadwood's LEAST likable character on hoeno.blogspot.com. That was easy-Alma. Terminally stuck-up Alma. Never liked her, never will. Charlie should have his own show. Just Charlie running his business and keeping the hoopleheads in line, I'd watch that faithfully. ...and who cancelled this show? Ahem...C#cksuckas!!!!!

I'm deep into the 2nd season. I don't have cable so I rent or buy the videos as I am able. I have to say, among the numerous care-actors that make the series so enthralling - AND the camp of Deadwood; the language is certainly an important player in this show. Rich, pungent and profane. Neo-Shakespearean. I absorb every word in a novel fashion. F**kin' great!

without Ian McShane as Al...Deadwood would probably have been an excellent show...great writing, terrific acting, fine production values, etc. but with Al...it is the very best program I've seen in 50+ years of TV watching...and I'd always considered McShane a mediocre B-List actor...shows how wrong I was...

Al is the reason I began watching DW and he's still my favorite character. That being said I also really like Bullock, Star, EB, Dan, Trixie, Doc and Richardson. The entire cast is fantastic. Unlike other shows with large ensembles (I'm looking at you Heroes) where I fight the urge to vomit whenever an episode revolves around a stupid character (like the cheerleader).

Al is my all time favorite. He isn't the devil, but he isn't a saint either. He is what most people wish they could be, comfortable with doing whatever needs to be done in order to survive and succeed, without portraying a nasty/nice facade. He is tough but has an undeniable side of decency when it counts. He and Bullock are very similar, except Bullock fears his no so good side. The entire cast of characters is great. You can't help but find an endearing quality in each of them.

my absolute favorite actor since 1990, is best actor Brad Dourif. Love all his films, But there is just one prob, why cant they make a movie staring Brad, but give him a much bigger roll in the film. Most of them seem to have him playing such a small roll, that it makes a person wonder if he will ever get a bigger part. wildfire1

I also love that guy who got small pox (his nam escapes me right now) - was left in the forest - nursed by Jane and came back as a Pastor - only to finally stab his tormentor in the gut with a knife. I don't think that HBO really know what they were onto here with Deadwood. I don't even think they know they were creating a masterpiece - to them it was just another series not going anywhere. The real magic was in the detail. It just worked and they didn't even know it.

Al, Dan Dority, EB, Bullock, Charley U, Jane, Doc, Rev Smith, Joanie, Richardson, and Tom Nutall. My least favorite character is whoever the joker is that broke HBO's word to do movies.

Richardson is a legend. I love the way they portrayed the 'Earp' brothers - as volatile, loud, quick drawing opportunists - and there was a scene where Bullock and the Earp brothers have a bit of a stand-off over some tools Morgan had left in the hardware shop. I was sad to see them go - they would have been great allies - great episode.
