Deadwood Dog Pound

Since we have the Pussy Posters for the cat lovers, and, I do have Poker the cat, I felt it would be discrimanatory not to have a spot (pun intended) for our beloved dogs. Their not just man's best friend, and my screen name is taken from my Bluetick Coonhound, Blue...So everyone stop by and talk about your best friend..

:)

I want to say thanks again for all you kind words,

I'm getting better, so I stopped off to see how everyone is. I remember how sad Mr. Wu was when he lost his best buddy kitty.

I hope you are all enjoying the summer!

I see we've had another makeover here at Chez Amis!

Dear Peebs,X, Eccles and all,

thanks for your very kind words, they do help, thanks for 'listening' it is therapeutic for me.

I was so shocked by the whole turn of events, as my super husband keeps reminding , we were lucky that she had no suffering, not for a minute and was treated like a queen for almost 11 yrs, and they we were both there that day otherwise she might have had spasms and died alone.

When I think about the ride over she was just collapsed in my arms, and although still alive, it was liked she already passed very quietly and swiftly and I have to keep being reminded that this a good thing.

I also have to be reminded that I still have her little mate my lab/mix and the cats.

My springer spaniel did insinuate herself so much, very emotional, very vocal, needy, she followed me from room to room, and we let her get very bratty in recent years, shaking me down all the time for treats, but I loved it, and that's what made her great.

You guys are great to listen.

Kar, I'm so sorry to hear of this. Be patient with yourself and know that what you're feeling is normal - painful, but normal. You provided a good home and plenty of love and care for Stormy, and that's what is important.

Bless you.

Dear far away friends,
I hope it?s not too glum of me, and I apologize, but my heart is broken and I needed to share, the two letters below explain it best, I really had no idea of how bonded I was to my dog, I know they all leave us one day, but her swift and sudden loss has really thrown me, I feel like Jane after she saw Bill on the floor.

Sad news, we lost Stormy today

7/27/2008
Hello Dr. Turek,
I had been meaning for a long time to contact you and tell you how very well Stormy was doing since her treatments by you and your team, back in November/December of 2005. She was a black and white Springer Spaniel, female, and had anal sac adenocarcinoma, not sure if you remember her, after her treatments she had some trouble with the ?strictures?.

She had so much good health since, very spunky, walks every day, bugging us for treats, she slept much more deeply being a senior and all but when she was awake she was quite energetic. She was our little survivor, I was so proud of her. Her backside had white hair, which showed her radiation marks, it reminded me of how brave she was during the treatments. On walks people always told us how pretty she was and how sweet, and if I told them all she went through they couldn't believe it.

Unfortunately we had quite a shock yesterday, sudden lethargy and 107 fever, not exactly sure what happened. Below is my husband's account of the sad day. Still we had 2 yrs and 9 months since the treatments/surgery. She was so robust until yesterday morning; I guess I got too comfortable with her good health and never expect such a sudden end. I always hoped she would break the survival record of those dogs in your study of anal sac adenocarcinoma. I think she came close. She was due for her 11th birthday in a few weeks, so I'd say all and all it was good run.
------------------------------------------
Very sad day today, we had to put her down this afternoon. This morning, she wasn't hungry, no really big deal. I noticed she was a little shaky, kind of drowsy. We called the Vet. An hour later he said bring her in. I had to carry her in to the car. She did not seem to be in any pain, just very lethargic. Dr French took her temperature and it was 107.5, he had never seen that in a dog before. He took a blood sample and she was shaking and crying out some, not in pain but the kind they do when they are dreaming, you know? Apparently the cancer came back and had damaged her liver and gone to her brain, I don't how long this recurrence took must have come on soon I guess.
So I knew there was no hope, Dr French gave us some time to say goodbye to her and we put her down. She seemed fine as kind yesterday, this is quite a shock. Karen is inconsolable, as you would imagine. She saved her from cancer almost 3 years ago, taking her into Boston every day for three weeks, so this is a huge loss. Anyway, just wanted you to know.

My wife likes the other link of Imana:the baby hippo. She wants one. I told her that our pond is too small.
