How did Mr Wu get his meat locker so cold?

I'm curious as to what technology or techniques Mr Wu is using to get his meat locker so cold that you could see people's breath while they were in it, especially since there was no electricity. Deadwood seems like such a hot place and yet Mr Wu is able to keep a frozen locker in the middle of nowhere.

All 16 criiters ( not including dog and fishies), the wife and myself are doing fine. We had our 12 year wedding anniversary yesterday! I've been getting slammed on Zeke and Luther, a kids show for Disney XD. I leave the house at 5:15 every morning and get home around 8-8:30 at night. I'm already beat, and this show goes until mid May.

On the show we did have large ice blocks, real and fake. I'm not sure if the actual Deadwood had a source, but I know of a town north of Twin Falls, Idaho which would get ice from a cave some ten miles away. The ice would stay in the cave year round, being that it was under what appears to be a lava flow.

They had ammonia vapor refrigeration coils by that time.
