I listened to Blind Willie Johnson's "Trouble soon be over" on Youtube. He became blinded at age 7 when his stepmother threw lye in his face. He died in poverty, of pneumonia from sleeping in the rough. One comment was "I love you Willie." That one brought tears to my eyes.

Gravity is such an awesome song when you're in unrequited love. eta If you have Palladia you can see her perform these songs On Demand. > > The Kylie Minogue song wasn't bad, either. I was in Chicago only once in my life but I also enjoyed it. Except that I couldn't get a drink, not being quite 21 at the time. I wonder if that law has changed. Anyway, it was less than a year after the Democratic convention there & we young folks were still a bit paranoid. A group of us were also lost when we saw a cop car coming down the street. We briefly debated flagging them down to get directions ( it was about 9pm), when I said Fuckit & stepped off the curb in front of the car & flagged it down. Fortunately they stopped & didn't run me down. I very nicely asked for directions & they kindly told us where to go. heh. After they left one of the guys in our group told me he would never have the balls to do that. I just looked at him & said, Yeah, I believe you. ahhh, youth.

> Sweet > Home Chicago I once took a train which was supposed to go from Toronto to Chicago, pausing briefly to drop me off in Mishawaka, Indiana along the way so I could visit a friend who was writing her doctoral thesis in South Bend. Long story short ... the train broke down an hour after we left. They put all Chicago bound travelers, and me, on a bus. The bus broke down shortly after we crossed the border. By the time they dropped me off, the Chicago bound passengers and I had sung every Chicago related song we could remember, including some we couldn't remember. I remember one passenger who said she was enjoying herself so much she didn't want the journey to end. I don't know why, but I've always harbored a fondness for the Windy City.
