Good news: Lonesome Dove has been re-mastered and re-issued in widescreen format with greatly improved picture and sound. The difference in image and sound quality is like night and day. Bad news: Currently this re-issue is only available in the UK, in PAL format, region-2. So you have to order it from Amazon.co.uk, and you need either a DVD player that can convert PAL and is region-free, or you need the ability to do the conversion and burn a DVD on your PC. Or you can watch it on PC. I have it, and it's P-U-R-T-Y. Here's an example of the difference in the image quality and format: Original version New Version Here's another example: Original Version New Version -- CalamityDan.com - Photos, files and stuff

This is wonderful new CDan. I can always count on you to excite me just when I think I'm almost done for. Maybe it'll be available by Christmas time. BTW, I got an email from Amazon letting me know that Mad Men S1 will be released in July. Now that's one I'm anxious to get. Especially since my knucklheaded husband erased all my stuff on my DVR.

I gotta tel ya, I love lonsome dove, except the last time i played it , it wasn't so satisfying. Not "content rich" enough like DW. Contrarywise, DW never fails to satisfy no matter how many times i've seen a particular episode. Someone said it was the perfect western. nahhh. to me the title goes to Man Who Shot Liberty Vallance. Perfect Western in B&W. For PW in Color: Shane. Perfect Western Series Ever : DW No, I don't think Lonesome Dove would make the cut of the 10 boxed DVD sets I'd Take With Me on The Deserted Island Where I Live the Rest of My Life. Not even the top 25. Definitely the Top 50 box sets. -- ****************** http://phayemuss.wordpress.com/ ************************

It was great, I could watch it over and over and over...... I especially admire all the accents in the show. I spent many years in South Texas and I really appreciate the attention to the language. How 'bout Frederick Forrest as "Blue Duck" or Blue DICK as me and my Mom call him? HBO wake up, you had a show as good as that --- and you need to make another...... -- Edited by rskoo at 05/05/2008 2:52 PM PDT

If I had gotten a male puppy, his name was gonna be Jake Spoon. Robert Urich was so wonderful in LD.

There's no telling if or when this new issue will be released in the USA. It's a complete new transfer from the original film stock, so odds are good that it will eventually find it's way here. The UK often gets stuff like this about 6 months ahead of us. I look for it to show up on some HD channel as well, at some point. But nothing has been announced yet. -- CalamityDan.com - Photos, files and stuff
