Thanks. I was leaning that way.

Seems like I recall seeing several of these. They are always in the top right-hand corner of the screen, last for a good second, and are very, very noticeable.

Cigarette burn circle marks? Those are cue marks. Sounds like you were in a theater where they were crap at switching reels. A good projectionist can do this seamlessly so you don't notice that.

I need to see that one. I'll have to decide between Iron Man and Wanted.

What are the cigarette burn circle marks on film? Is that where editing was done? I noticed lots of those in The Dark Knight.

Bleh. Right, Heath's character didn't do much talking at all.

That and sixty bucks will get you a full tank of gas.

I just snuck out to an early showing of Iron Man, which was okay. No surprises. I love Jeff Bridges, as you know, so it was cute seeing him as a baldy. The VFX were tolerable, but of course it sucks to know where to look to see matte lines and chattering. I also liked the first Iron Man suit the best, before it got all bullshit foo foo CG. Most interesting when there were no big explosions or flying around crap. Also nice to see Terrence Howard, although he doesn't look as hot as I thought he would in a flight suit. And throughout, I was wondering who RDJr is using for a yoga teacher these days, since he and I shared the same instructor for a few years till he decamped back to TX back in '06. He's looking buff, but in a good, non-neckless way. Also liked the fact that Jon Favreau gave himself a teeny tiny role in the flick.

From the trailers today, what looks great is Righteous Kill, although the director, Jon Avnet, is kind of a wild card. I'm hoping that at least De Niro and Pacino can do their thing no matter what. It was being sold as a very Scorsese-feeling kind of movie, so I worry, because Avnet is no Scorsese.

I meant if he won it would be as supporting, not as best actor.
Sorry I was unclear.
And I do think he would have won best actor over Strathairn even though he gave a fantastic performance.
Like you said, we'll see what happens between now and then.

The New World, f'rinstance.

Bollocks! Strathairn was leagues ahead as Murrow. Like anyone would give him an award for "Ah wish ah knew how to quit yeeewww."

> He'll get the win for The Dark Knight as Supporting Actor.

He's no Peter Finch. He was a partier, and he overdid it. Just because he's dead doesn't guarantee a lock on an Oscar. It depends on what comes out between now and December 31st. He might get his ass kicked by Sean Penn, Paul Bettany, Jeffrey Wright, Hoffman (again), Matthew MacFadyen, Elias Koteas, or a host of others. There are still lots of movies left to be released this year, with a ridiculous amount of excellent actors in high-profile non-VFX-heavy flicks.

But then again, he might get it. I'm just saying there's no guarantees.

I'm assuming the TV critic mistakenly believes that Bale is American.

Even if he took his roles home with him, he stopped wearing that Batsuit eight months ago, when principal photography wrapped, and he's been working on two other movies since then, so I'm afraid the inquisitive public will have to come up with a different excuse. Perhaps his role as Melvin Purvis, or as John Connor in yet another Terminator movie, has more to do with it. Or maybe it has to do with something that none of us know anything about.

One more thought about Dark Knight:

I totally want Aaron Eckhardt to be the father of my children. Talented and beautiful. I don't know if he can cook or not, but that would seal the deal.

For those of you who haven't yet seen Dark Knight, please skip this post. There are no spoilers, but I don't want to put any thoughts in your head that you may not need. Draw your own conclusions after seeing the movie, then come back later.

I thought Ledger's performance in Dark Knight was brilliant and hypnotic. Award-winning, absolutely. He took some words written on a page and gave them a life beyond what the writer could ever have hoped for. (And yes, I'm enough of a geek that I'd read the book -- sorry, graphic novel -- before I saw the movie.)

That said, as I was walking into the theater, a couple of theater attendants were walking towards their stations talking about some movie or another (you know they're all little experts, right?) and one of them mentioned Johnny Depp. I never got the context of the conversation, but it put JD in my mind as I sat down to watch the movie.

Due to that small coincidence, when Heath came on the screen, Johnny came to mind again. I remember when the first Pirates movie came out, Johnny had said that he was channelling Keith Richards (and some one else, who I can't seem to recal) for the character of Jack Sparrow. I couldn't help thinking that the Joker was Heath channelling Johnny channelling an evil Keith. (Disclaimer: NOT that I think Keith is in the least bit evil!!)

From all accounts, this was a tough role for Heath's head. And it should have been. But it has occured to me that Johnny would wear that nurse uniform on his day off just for fun.

Heath's death was tragic, no question. For him, for his family -- and DAYUM for those of us who would like to have seen him and Johnny in the same film.

Christian should have been nom'd for American Psycho, The Machinist, Rescue Dawn, 3:10 to Yuma and a couple others.
He's never played a role I didn't love him in.
And Heath should have won for Brokeback and would have if not for Hoffman in Capote. He'll get the win for The Dark Knight as Supporting Actor.
