Why oh why??

I just watched this Deadwood series again and I will NEVER understand why it was canceled... And the mystery even deepens to think that they seemingly did so to facilitate True Blood which is True Crap if you ask me...

My letter to HBO on June 6, 2006:

You know, it still makes me wonder what people see in Entourage?

It's a group of juvenile 20 something "boys", running around wondering where the next influx of cash is going to come from.

Kind of sounds like Chris Albrecht, doesn't it?

(except the twenty-something)

I'm sorry... we can get that on the big 3 censored networks... Nothing special in the writing, acting, or premise of the show. It's just, well, normal.

And Carolyn is telling us that BOP (bunch-o-punks) is the future of HBO? EXCUSE ME?

No more "period pieces"?

A traditional 3-camera sitcom with Lucky Louie? Just what I was thinking!

A drama about a man with 3 wives? Hope you didn't expect THAT to take the place of Sopranos!

Sopranos going, 6FU gone, Carnivale gone, Sex in the City gone, OZ gone, and *sigh* Deadwood going... Just what in the hell do you think you are going to do HBO?

Surfers being visited by aliens from outer space may attract some of the viewers that Deadwood did... but do you honestly think that will be enough to keep 28 million fuckin' viewers happy? Get a fuckin' clue!

Well "Fuck off & Die" HBO, for I have many better ways to spend that money these days, yet I know it will be spent at the gas pumps.

I will relish my wonderful memories of Deadwood forever, and share the DVD's with everyone that mean anything to me.

Deadwood is something special. Something that no one has ever seen or experienced before. It is a fucking brilliant work of art. I hate to say it, but we may never see anything of this caliber again. Ever.

Only you can change that Carolyn, and I implore you to fight for your life, because your buddy Chris is a dumb-ass.

Dual 2-hour follow-up movies you say? PPPFFFFFFFTTTT!

Actually, thank you HBO. It's better than nothing. (turns out you bailed on this promise)

I cannot warn you enough though, you are making the biggest mistake in the history of the Company.

Yes I know it doesn't mean the end of my life. Yes, my family comes first. Yes, it's just a fucking show. But it's THE show. It's the only show that I have ever cherished in this manner.

Deadwood attracts brilliant people.

Although I may be the dullest coin in the fountain here, the quality of viewers Deadwood attracts speaks volumes for it's quality. Look at the members of this site! I'm extremely proud of our small membership here, as they all amaze me on a regular basis with their insight into all that is Entertainment. Almost "Milchian", if you will.

HBO should be interested in an informative statistic.

They worry about female viewers and try to programme for them. They should note that 75% of this Deadwood Fan Site is Female! (my personal Deadwood fan website)

Well, I'll wrap up my tirade today by quoting my new sig.

"HBO has become a visionless empire under the direction of an idiotic dictator, which shall cause the fall of the last bastion of intelligent programming for a shrinking group of discerning viewers."

Thank you for reading, and good night.

I feel your pain. Why on earth this amazing show was canceled is beyond me. The acting was amazing and I feel terribly cheated by how it ended.

actually the reason given was economics which sits somewhere between cat piss and soot on a white shirt with things that agree with me.
i doubt true blood was even in the nascent stage of developement when DW was axed. the bean counters and chris albrecht had a collective brain fart and got away with setting a super bowl record for breaking hearts.
