Politics in DEADWOOD -Bring It !

Seems folks here in Deadwood have alot to offer on the subject of politics. It's all over the place in so many threads its hard for a hoople like me to find it all.

So i thought maybe if there was a single thread for political opinion and debate it might be easier to indulge in reading it.

I hope so anyways cause some of the stuff I've read in here has all the promise of a good Sunday morning pundit throw down. But a lot fuckin wittier and funnier.

Thanks.

so who are the 4% of Americans who won't be covered by this bill? Or is the 4% those who are already covered by Medicare, Medicaid, etc ?

With the last Senator making her proclamation, I think that without any surprises, the Senate Health Care Measure will go to the floor tonight. Which gives you a damn good chance of some version of it passing. Sure, it may be a little early to declare victory, but its a pretty safe bet.

Do we keep on coming or stand and wait
with the sun so dark and the hour so late?

Sen. Patrick Leahy and Boone know where that comes from.

Joseph Cao...Republican congressman from Lousiana...sounds like a Good Guy...with a good bio...obviously bright but he says the ONLY reason he's a Republican is their "Pro-Life" stance...I know why the morons fall in line and vote against their own best interests(Fear and Rage is all they can respond to) but why can't someone like Cao see the hypocrisy of the Republicans...or is the answer simply found in his religion?...

Mr. Z will be home Wed. morning, thank goodness.

I don't know how they managed it, but his sibs (all married before us) had arranged with the in laws an alternating years schedule, and we did that for a long time. We would actually tote santa's toys to friggin DC or Sanibel Island or Breckenridge. That got hard and we shifted to Dec. 26. Now all the in-law parents are gone and we...don't do much at the holidays. We be sure to see MIL because she hasn't got much longer, but if Mizzou is play, we had better by god be quiet.

So I bought a football and a basketball this afternoon and I got out the bocce balls, too.

Very cool, thanks. They look to be having a great time. Good thing the Prez is smart enough to not stop short in front of Polamalu.

Will Mr Z be home for Thanksgiving & Xmas? Hope so.

What gets me about "family" holidays is that so many parents expect their grownup kids who have their own families to strictly keep up the same traditions they had when the grown up kids were little. I mean I have heard stories of married couples pissing off both sets of parents when they try to have their own family tradition ( ie NOT going to either in-laws' house for dinner). And stories of parents going to war with their kid's in-laws as to who is going to have the dinner at their house & by god their kid & family had better be there & not the house of the other parents. It wasnt' so bad for me when I was married, we had his kids every damn holiday so they were our excuse to stay home & do our own dinner thing for the most part. My sister was smart, she moved out of state right after college & has been out of state ever since. Started their own holiday traditions .

Well, you cheered me up a little. I gave GOP Sis a big downer when I told her I wasn't looking fwd to it, as we were always alone with our parents and sibs on Thksgv growing up, because that is the precise reason our dad dragged us from the Gulf Coast to the fucking Permian Basin to live - to get away from the relatives. As he was generally an unpleasant person who was devastated that he wasn't Dean Martin, being locked in the house with him was no fun. Those years ended with my mom 25 years ago, but the sensation lingers, just like the sensation that 4th of July is a forced march through 114 degree heat with a bowl of potato salad and something that will burn you.

Mr. Z's family is a lot more fun, but there are so many injuries this year - these people are in the ER more than SAMCRO - that we're staying here, which revived the sensation. I think I will find Mr. Z a football, which I hadn't even noticed we're missing lately - and he has been in the middle east for a month.

Looks like DeMarcus Ware, Drew Brees and Troy Polamalu will be playing touch football on the White House lawn with Obama and some kids for a PSA this Thanksgiving.

Ah, here ya go.

I like to see my White House lawn used this way. Every year my moms would be cooking thanksgiving dinner and the boys would be tossing a football around the house. This was strictly forbidden, except we knew that since it was Thanksgiving we had an automatic reprieve. After the old man cussed us out a few times, he would always tell us to go outside. We didn't have a lawn but we had a lot of trees and we slipped through those ponderosa pines screaming "frozen rope" as my oldest brother threaded the needle between them. Good times.
