Seems folks here in Deadwood have alot to offer on the subject of politics. It's all over the place in so many threads its hard for a hoople like me to find it all. So i thought maybe if there was a single thread for political opinion and debate it might be easier to indulge in reading it. I hope so anyways cause some of the stuff I've read in here has all the promise of a good Sunday morning pundit throw down. But a lot fuckin wittier and funnier. Thanks. -- auBoy Jackass of all trades, master of one.

Yikes! My childhood memories of Thanksgiving are good. My aunt hosted the party in her large basement and all of the relatives were there. Lots of kids and lots of good food. The opposite of silence and tension. I am very grateful for that.

The only thing they didn't do was to use their forks and knives in the British style which allows for the added benefit of having all the painful silences around the table punctuated by the sound of metal scraping against the plates. .... good times.

For netheads, this Microsoft/News Corp. situation is amazingly stupid. They are talking about de-indexing from Google. First you have Rupert Murdoch who seriously believes that Google is "stealing" his content. Google isn't stealing content. Google is moving people to Fox web sites. Rupert doesn't seem to understand that if he de-indexes, there will be many many news outlets to take his place. They will get the site hits, not him. This will be a major fail on his part. From the Microsoft standpoint, their aim is to fracture the internet search engines through paying money to people like Murdoch. What they don't seem to understand, is that it won't make people want to use Bing. Picture an internet where you could only search Digg or CNN or the New York Times using Bing -- where Microsoft has paid those and other companies to block rival search engines from crawling their content. Search wouldn't be about who could provide the best results -- it would be about who was willing to pay the most to keep everybody else out. That's what Microsoft is trying to do. Google has them beat when it comes to quality of service, so they're trying to do an end run around that by essentially buying exclusivity contracts. It's ridiculous because even if they have a lot of money, this is a gamble with a small likelihood of paying off. What they aren't getting is that people don't go to a search engine to look for a particular brand of information. People who want News Crop products specifically know where to find it. Companies that delist from Google will diminish their exposure and relevance, that is all. If I was a Google exec today, I'd be laughing my ass off.

Hooray! First Roy Blunt attack ad today - it's directed at "congressman," but he's not our congressman, and our signals can't be picked up in his district.... Meanwhile, the Chase Bank commercial with the white sofa is pissing me off. The asshole message is that we (or black people, or light-skinned black people, as you choose to read it) can come to Chase to get money for any irresponsible purchase we want - but it's our responsibility to take care of your things. If you buy something, take care of it, children. It's not our fault if your cat pees on it.

As a Philadelphian, born and bred, who has had to endure incessant media coverage of the Eagles for 60-odd years(and I haven't watched a game since the early '70's) I heartily wish the Bears well,Solong...Good,Bad or Indifferent the Eagles are always the "Big" story around here and it is always boring...but it at least provides a little Schadenfreude when they lose...

Bears vs. Eagles tonight. I feel like a traitor if I don't watch, but honestly lately it's just too painful. The Bears have been known to pull a miracle out of their asses from time to time and that's what I'm hoping for tonight.
