Seems folks here in Deadwood have alot to offer on the subject of politics. It's all over the place in so many threads its hard for a hoople like me to find it all. So i thought maybe if there was a single thread for political opinion and debate it might be easier to indulge in reading it. I hope so anyways cause some of the stuff I've read in here has all the promise of a good Sunday morning pundit throw down. But a lot fuckin wittier and funnier. Thanks. -- auBoy Jackass of all trades, master of one.

Hey peebs, CGal...I haven't really been talking about it much. Definitely been taking time for me and thinking a lot about what I want to do. I have a little savings and got a bit of severance and all the vacation I never took...along with the big unemployment insurance I'm getting by for now. Working on an Obama mortgage modification... Seriously thinking about starting back on the PhD I let go of when my brother was diagnosed and dying a few years back... Working on a website for a consulting practice and planning to take it relatively easy through the holidays...except cool opportunities are starting to emerge...don't want to go back to community-based nonprofit...think I've paid enough dues there (20 years) and want to develop my own venture. Hope it's not TMI...thx fpor asking.

Are they watching V? VATICAN CITY ? E.T. phone Rome. Four hundred years after it locked up Galileo for challenging the view that the Earth was the center of the universe, the Vatican has called in experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial alien life and its implication for the Catholic Church.

Porn star Stormy Daniels talks to Marie Claire about her transition to politics as a U.S. Senate candidate from Louisiana. Q: How much will your résumé be a factor? A: It's actually starting to work in my favor -- I have nothing to hide. A sex tape of me isn't going to pop up and shame me; there are 150 of them at the video store. Q: Do you think you're more qualified than Senator Vitter? A: Absolutely not. But in one movie, I did play a Secret Service agent marooned on an island controlled by North Korea. I butt heads with dictator Kim Jong-il and come out on top. Ya gotta love this country

> It was in your transcript. You miss the point. Here, Obama is posing the question of the imperfect being the enemy of the good. You ask how you can make a victory-less situation into a victory. I suppose the first thing to do is to make your endpoint achievable, realizing that lofty goals usually necessitate on-going effort. I personally don't see how we can make Afghanistan into a "sloppy" but workable country. My bet is that Obama can't either since he keeps sending the military back to rewrite plans. However, the ramifications of not doing that are fairly severe.

Galling...after all these years...all the death and destruction...all the political and psycho-historical "What-Ifs" that on Veterans Day the "Four Options" being considered for the Neverending War are A Little More War,Slightly More Than A Little More War,Slightly Less Than A Lot More War and A Lot More War....JFC...People give you that "Thank You For Your Service" BS...I'd prefer to be "Thanked" by having the people who run the Country consider another option...Stop the God-Damned Wars...the Political Players change but the excuses and rationalisations never do...

The only time I can recall my mother voting for anyone except the candidate running on behalf of the Liberal Party was well over thirty years ago when she voted for a man I'll just call "Sarah Palin-in-Principle." He was a mayor of a small city who was notorious for his bigoted and conservative views. It was all a counter-cultural, anti-federalist, irrational thing so very appealing to those bitter souls who feel marginalized and want someone to blame. (I always found it a sad irony that many of the folks who bought those "Left Behind" series of novels in fact feel as if they've been left behind by contemporary culture. ) So, they elected someone who represented them, mouthing all the discontent and giving voice to those inarticulate feelings of what Matt Taibbi calls "fucked-overness." Almost twenty-years later, the same scenario emerged this time with a woman candidate who had also been a popular but controversial and acid tongued mayor. I liked her because she had a gravel voice and was a tough old broad, but I'd never vote for her. I was always a Red Tory, and she was running very much in opposition to my ilk. When both of these former mayors ended up in Parliament, their supporters were thrilled to have "one of their own" at the helm. Of course, they were total failures who sat in their back bench, making cringe worthy remarks, looking out of place, and appearing to be just every bit the country bumpkin. I doubt that Sarah Palin actually can win the Republican Nomination, but I think she is going to try, and I'm not foolish enough to put money on any Republican running against her. PS: Spell Check doesn't recognize the word "marginalized." Okay, but isn't it about fucking time that it fucking recognizes the fucking word "fuck?" I mean ... fuck! Anyways ... I've got writing to do. -- Edited by Ecclesfan at 11/11/2009 7:33 AM PST
