the profanity/slang in deadwood

right, I was surprised to see modern day profanity used in deadwood. Did the writers simply adapt the show so we could understand it or were the same words used back then? I assumed they were different

Al: I don?t give a fuck about unions, Mr. Hearst. Nor do I have any objection to the killing of the Cornish as high-graders, aggregating organizing cocksuckers But bloodletting on my premises that I ain?t approved I take as a fucking affront. It puts me off my feed.

Hearst: How do we know when you are off your feed?

Al: You?ll start to see me tearing things down. Speeches tonight are canceled. Unless the insult?s cured by tomorrow, there?ll be further tearing down. Fuck the fucking elections, and fuck the agreement with Yankton. Let the camp return to its former repute: unstable and unsafe for commerce.

Hearst: I?m a great believer in those.

Al: Oh, stability, Sir, and commerce? I can fucking imagine. Think of all they?ve helped you accomplish.

Hearst: Shall I perceive you then as dangerous to my interests?

Al: As capable of inconvenience and of some damage and debt to those that would act against my interests, I cannot fucking argue with dangerous. Different from powerful though, which speaks to potency longer term. I?d not have myself called powerful in your company or the Captain?s.

Hearst: Then I?ll hope that your insult is cured to spare the camp any danger of however brief a duration.

Al: And to look for one fucking instant out of the other end of the telescope, once placated, I?m meek as a babe. (He takes the bottle and finishes it off, setting it down.) Dead. (He leaves.)

Hearst: (to the captain) You will want to converse with those friends of yours, Captain Turner, who argue with the Cornish. Perhaps they?d care to pay another visit to the saloon. I think I?ll want to hear the talk.

Looking at this.....Al's line about " the other end of the telescope" is just a continuation of his previous line about being dangerous, but not powerful. He's actually telling Hearst, here, that he will be dangerous until he gets his cut. Very much of a Al thing to say.

I have also been listening in the context of Al kind'a finishing/continuing what Hearst has said. "to spare the camp from danger for whatever duration-"and to look....

It's Monday, why is everybody fucking whispering around here?

I'm pretty sure somebody is following pbjim around with a voice recorder right now, as he's a Milch character hisownself.

Whatever you do, don't fart while in the saddle!!!

They'll ask, "How's you're fuckin' back, Pal?" or some other vaguely gay threat.
So it goes.

I am a musician, so it will not be my first probation hehe.

I completely forgot about the education. For undergrad I received my degree at Stetson U. (I lived in FLA for 10 years) I was a studio guitarist for Disney. Came back to VA and attended LC. Masters in Education the most worthless degree in the world, besides a degree in guitar performance. HA

As far as dating students, it was a don't ask don't tell thing. I would go to music festivals with a few of my girls from Sweet B. and swim in the enviroment of smirks and smiles from my collegues. RMWC was not a liberal about it, but you put young hot babes around male professors (I was 27 my first year) and shit is going to happen.!

The language is quite reminiscent of books written of the time, with a healthy salting of "fucks", which has always been the favorite word of miners. I don't think that the transcripts are still on line, unfortunately. Perhaps someone else can provide a link.

You would have liked it around here when it was airing. William is dead.

Some actors do, sure. Wu is the only one that shows up now an again anymore. Uncle was a prop master for the show. But, I am actually indicating that this board was a bit like Deadwood at the time, and we made a community, put laws in place (like starting threads), had broken bottle fights in the alleys, drank until we killed someone -- stuff like that....

There are layers of appreciation of the series. Some choose to see them through the lens of language, of course, while others look at the drama, and still others see the series more holistically as a story of why and how communities are created. Still others look to the rich characters or the history. Stuff like that.

I
> am curious as to what constitutes a "trouble maker".

From time to time there are some that want to do harm.

RU will be interested.

We have anyone in VA? Not anymore, I think. I'm in Florida.

RU is over there right now, no doubt. There is a thread called Deadwood Comics where we post most of the music stuff. Playing with Miles is probably an automatic "in" here.

A professor with one of the students? Whoever heard of that?

There are several active threads still here. Use them. You are now on probation.

I get my news from Jon Stewart. Anything else is researched on the web. I wear the briefs that come down on the thigh, so no tightywhities for me.

OK.
First of all I don't know what you mean by trouble makers, I was curious about the scene and spent some time on the web. I became tired of people pointing out the penta-syllabic writing technique, so I found this post and asked my Q. I wouldn't know what to do to be a trouble maker even if I wanted to rain on the proverbial parade.
I will address the timing question first. It was recommended to me by my ex-wife as she knew I would appreciate the show's intelligent style. That was last year so I don't even know how long it has been off air.
After watching a couple of episodes, I ran out and got all 3 seasons. I spent a week just plowing through them with little sleep. I now watch at least a half dozen each week. I never seem to tire of them, there are so many great lines. I usually am verbatim with the TV as I watch. In my watching I have tried to form a faux relationship with my favorite characters.
As far as the cast in cyber-space I can only deduce that maybe you mean that the actors use this forum??
I would like to know what sort of "dissecting" you mean. I feel like I have come to know each episode, but could only express positive comments. I am curious as to what constitutes a "trouble maker".
As far as I go.
I am 42, a retired guitarist. I also taught at Sweet Briar Women's, Randolf Macon (women's while I was there), and Lynchburg College. Lynchburg Va is where I have my home. I live alone no pets nothing. I imaging that goes a long way as to why I can watch things repetitively.
I have played with the Miles Davis Band, Carl Anderson (the original Judas in ALW's Jesus Christ Superstar. I have also played as a solo classical guitarist. My heart has always been with the electric. I invite you to go to YouTube my username is paulandlesson. There you can see several videos classical and electric. I would love feedback. Sexual orientation, I loves the ladies. My last relationship was with one of my Sweet B. students.
Being a recluse I have a very limited diet. Chicken breast, micro popcorn and my fridge is full of 32 oz vanilla and plain yogurt.
My days consist of 4 hours of practice (just for love of the instrument), 4 hours of studying chess. Chess is my "albatross". It keeps me disciplined as there is no room for rote thinking. It also keeps me sharp as far as strategy, tactics. "Adams being nothing more than his stalking horse from the gambit's beginning" A good example of how Deadwood fits into and lets me enjoy.
If you want to know anything else.
Oh Yeah I was the guy on the "grassy knoll". Take it easy RU.
