It?s not that unrealistic or what not but why is Eric always referred to as ?E? instead of ?Murph? or ?Murphy?? Anyone that has the last name of Murphy, knows that everyone especially their close friends (or entourage) will call them Murphy or Murph. This is especially true if you have a common first name like Eric, John, Mike, etc. Being from New York (or another big city) this is just a very common thing amongst your people. To me; saying ?E? is very early 90?s and reminds me of Heavy ?D? & the Boyz. The writers need to update this and make this more realistic. - "I?m not a Suit"

somebody please make this show interesting again ever since turtle has gotten a girlfriend and vince has been on house arrest and ari is whipped by his wife now more then ever, this show has been just dull, turtle was funny when he was getting girls, ari was funny when he was punching walls in the parking lots after getting fired and the storyline was better when vince was getting movie deals!

What an absolutely pointless thread. Atleast its lack of a point relates to Season 6.

To agree with Gator. My last name is Chase, and I get called "Chase" all the time at work and out playing ball. People do take nicknames from first and last names, there is no rule. I think E is a great nickname. I also find it funny how Ashley NEVER calls him "E". She always make sure to say Eric, while Sloan always calls him by his nickname. Listen out for that.

Yo Tiny, You are totally wrong in regards to your first paragraph. To say that ?murph? is NEVER used to call someone if that is their LAST NAME is completely false. I of all people should know. My LAST name is Murphy and almost my entire life friends, co-workers, teammates, etc. have ALWAYS called me either ?Murph? or ?Murphy?. I have ran into other people that also have the LAST name Murphy (girls and guys) and they get called Murph or Murphy as well. It doesn?t have to be JUST your FIRST NAME ? like say the tv show Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen). And it?s not just because I personally have a common first name, it?s because the last name ? Murphy ? lends in and of itself to be a nickname. I can almost guarantee you that the Atlanta Braves legend Dale (not a very common first name) Murphy was ever called ?Dale? out in the field or in and around the clubhouse. Imagine ? ?Hey Dale throw me my batting gloves? ? no. It would be, ?Hey Murph, toss me my batting gloves? I know a lot of people who also call their animals Murphy (mostly dogs); but that again is the name lending itself naturally as a nickname. But I did find your last paragraph as well as Chase2kspc?s comment below insightful and agreeable.

murph is never used to call some if its their LAST NAME. Nicknames have always been based off a person's first name or their personality. Secondly Murph is a nicknamed found by those who first names are Murphy. also the fact that the character is based off Stephen Levinson and Wahlberg's good friend Eric Weinstein who if you act remember is referred to as "Easy" during his appearances. -- Edited by TinyEric at 09/03/2009 7:01 AM PDT

Because it's season 6, not the pilot. You cant go making a drastic change in characters names like that. How bout when that dude Scottie calls him "Murphy Group." hahah
