Rob Weiss??

One thing I noticed this season -- when I felt something was off with the dialogue/story arcs in general -- was the absence of writer Rob Weiss. He wrote some of the best episodes/lines of the entire series....who could forget when Drama said mean was when he "a** f*kd jess mancini and made her ride her bike home."

Looking at writing credits for the episodes this season, it's all Doug Ellin and Ally Musika, who I think wrote more episodes this season than she had in the previous ones combined. Maybe the network wanted to attract more females and this was their way?

Anyways does anyone know what happened with Rob Weiss? I'm thinking he just jumped ship on a high note, but who knows. Hopefully he's back next season.

You can also see Ally in an episode in Season 1, when Johnny is auditioning for CSI Minneapolis lol she's in the green and black skirt, if I am remembering correctly.

Hey Sabre,
I really don't recall Ally at all. But now we have an idea of what happened and her promotion.

Good call Thawing about the writers strike. That explains a lot too.

Have a good night everyone!

I knew a lot of this already, but great leg work guys, especially you, Thawing. It never even crossed my mind about the writer's strike resulting in Ally filling in. Makes a lot of sense.

BTW, I don't think Ally is that gorgeous. Supposedly, she is credited with playing Drama's girl Jacqueline's friend who was on crutches in the Tony Bennett ep of Season 5. From imdb:

Actress:
"Entourage" .... Lily (1 episode, 2008)
- Unlike a Virgin (2008) TV episode .... Lily

You only see her for a second, but if that is indeed her, not anything like the girl Turtle was macking on at the Justin Chapin/Bennett party. But just like a producer to cast his writer girlfriend in a small bit part...so vain and so telling of Doug's puppy dog allegiance to her. Just because you are involved with someone doesn't mean they can all of a sudden act or write or whatever. This is a highly lucrative business...not seventh grade.

Levinson was another that I left out who has heavily involved in the first couple seasons. He's no longer involved either as far as I know.

And, Weiss was only occassinally writing up until 5. It was mostly Musika and Ellin, with Weiss thrown in occasionally. Meaning he was forced to write with the crap Musika left him with.

So then Season Six come and boom Doug Ellin and Ally Musika left all alone writing every episode..... WOW

They need to get back those writers from Season's 1 and 2 and bits of 3.

Youre right, it was the writer strike that caused this, I totally forgot about that. I guarantee the original writers from the first few seasons were siding with the union, so Ellin said fine, I'll just have my girlfriend write the show. Hence, Entourage now SUCKS.

Great post The Thawing....

I think about what if..... every day while I'm posting. Standing up for what's right and not letting people who should be watching reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond tell us what is smart and funny. Great post man.

Just scanning through the episode credits from the first season up until the finale of season 6, explains a lot. The writers from the first 2.5 seasons, Rob Weiss, Brian Burns, Larry Charles, and not writing anymore. They have all been replaced with, you guessed it, Ally Musika.

Ally was still with the show, but was on as an associate producer. She had no say essentially in what was written, or how it was directed. The only person still around from the first few seasons is Doug Ellin. And, the episodes that Doug did write, the majority were co-written with the writers above, which, in Hollywood, mean he didnt write any of them at all (think Good Will Hunting). He simply had his name put on them as the creator.

My guess is that during the writer strike, they simply could not find writers to fill the hole that Weiss, Burns, etc. left so they simply hired from within. That person was Musika. She went from producer to writer, all in one season, and has pretty much had her hands all over every episode starting with season 3.

Funny, this is exactly when fans started complaining that Entourage began going downhill. As a result, I'm sure she has gotten more and more power, and, yep, and show has gone further and further downhill.

Ally Musika, you my friend, ruined Entourage. Makes you think what could have been if Weiss, Charles, Burns stayed on and had the freedom they did the first couple seasons. Imagine where the show would be now...

Definitely Weiss is the missing link, it makes sense. I remember it being talked about before on here. It looks as if they moved Ally into the position as Thawing posted before. Maybe next season they will bring together a fresh team and some of the ones from earlier to brainstorm with the characters. I guess they know we will watch anyways because we have been loyal viewers of the series. It still would be nice to see it end like it began.

Yeah there was a thread on here a few weeks back about how Ally Musika or whatever her name is has been doing a lot of writing this season, and somebody mentioned Weiss also. Its plain as day, they got a new writer, now the show is completely different and ruined.

I noticed in season 3 Rob Weiss had more involvment with my favorite episodes.

You're on the mark with this one and it's clear that Ally Musika gave Doug Ellin a little something on the side over the years. She is from Laguna Beach and maybe she's that hot.
