Comments, Complaints & Suggestions

Have a comment about the site or a suggestion for a new or existing feature? Post them here.

If you have a complaint, post that here as well, with a few basic guidelines:

* Don't use profanity in your complaint (that goes for comments and suggestions as well!).

* Don't complain about the behavior of another user if you are engaging in the same type of behavior yourself.

* Personal attacks against others users, the mods or the admins will be deleted.

Complaints about deletions will NOT be addressed here. If you have a question about why something of yours was deleted please PM me directly and I will be happy to look into for you.

Thanks!

Heh, I went to excruciating lengths not to swear in my really long post up there. Ya'll make this harder than it needs to be.

First, unban Rainy. I didn't see the PM or the post on the opinion of the right thread but no one has disputed what's been said so I'm going with the facts as I know them. And it sounds like a simple slip up. Slap her hand and let's all move on together.

Forgive me if the rest of this is jumbled but there are a lot of things I am trying to say and they fighting to get out of my head all at once.

Admins, you handled this badly. I weighed in when the righteous thread went up because I knew where this was headed. It was childish and nothing more than a screw you to the author of the opinion of the right thread. But what's missing is that the opinion of the right thread started the same way. It was a screw you to everyone else and the signature line bragging about how many views and responses it got were pathetic. (Seriously, who does that?)

I don't think those kinds of threads are necessarily wrong. Childish? Sure. But who am I to complain that anyone else is childish?

What is wrong is shielding the authors of those threads from the very reaction they seek.

Here's the thing, if replying to a thread is offensive, regardless of the nature of the reply, the thread is the problem, not the response.

This is a public discussion forum and while you have exclusive right to decide what is and is not allowed, it is not only in our interest but your own interest to be fair.

Barring comment regardless of the nature of those comments is not fair. And it does more to divide the community than it does to bring peace.

Anyone that has received warnings from the admins, take note of those warnings. If you have a problem with the warnings, take it up with the admins in private. Believe it or not, they are people too. They make mistakes and sometime react without thinking things through, just like you and me. I know I give them tons of crap but they really aren't all that bad if you give them the same chance you expect them to give you.

Finally, while Rainy and I don't get along, she's not the first person banned for their interactions with the author of that thread. In the best interest of the community, at some point, the root cause needs addressed.

I could give you a list of people who really should be banned. Rainy isn't one of them. Bring Rainy back.

Add my voice to those who urge you to restore Rainy's username. She has more than earned that small grain of consideration with her years of good cheer and insight. Don't keep your eye on the small thing.

How is it folks can use the phrase "sand n___" (when referring to Arabs) and one poster called a female poster a C-, but Rainy's the one in trouble?

To add to daniels precept I'd suggest that if a thread is so controversial as to bring about community limitations shouldnt it be parceled off into a private MEMBERS ONLY category? Using the eminent domain theory of whats good for the many as opposed to the good of the few.

Speaking as someone who has often benifited from the largesse of this administration's understanding nature I would like to add my name to the many who support and look forward to the words of RainyKinkaid.
We are speaking of someone who has invested a lot in advancing and promoting a common wisdom not seen in a great many of poster's words.
Her endeavor to bring to these pages information often buried under the mountain of shrill hyperbole are a boon to us all. John Donne was talking for us all when he wrote of a lesser nation at the loss of one soul. This soul in particular.

I visit this exalted ground so seldom my nose is bleeding. This is the blogging equivalent of an atheist praying in church, but hopefully more effective.

I'm here because of RainyKincaid. Banning her is like removing the Christ from Christmas. If she did trespass in an off-limits thread, she made no trouble while she was there, nor intended any malice. She has always been a beacon of fairness on these boards and has upheld the highest traditions of discourse. Please consider these things and remind her, if she's right about the reason, not to tread into that territory again. Otherwise, let her back. I seriously doubt you'll regret doing so.

One would hope. But it seems the "." has final say.

May I suggest Midol?
