Episode 5: Sally Returns

With Bret preoccupied with Coco, a lonely Jemaine visits the Laundromat--and runs into Sally, the "most beautiful girl in the room" who dumped him (and Bret) earlier this year.

You know, in addition to the date, I thought Me Here Now was maybe the name of one of the SFU episodes, or, you're right, something very OBSCURE because I remember it too but not the context. I just didn't want to make a fool out of myself commenting on that. :)

Favorite Jemaine scene is when he is telling them in another episode to "think bad thoughts about someone" for revenge. I just thought he was brilliant the way he played that. And talking about his expressions, which I agree are often the highlight of the scene, what about Bret's expression when he talks about lunch boxes in the 11th episode? We hit rewind several times to see that. Similiar to one of the early episodes when Murray does roll call and Bret says "no, not here" and then makes that face.

I'm too old to lust after these boys but I sure wish I could rent them a room. I just love 'em.

The vacuum cleaner hickey conversation gets more amusing when you realise that Judy Bailey was a tv news presenter and probably about 20 years older than Jemaine!
She is an attractive lady though!

Wow-yes I was a huge SFU fan. In fact, my screenname "meherenow" is an obscure SFU reference - so obscure that I don't even remember what it meant. . . anyway - great call! Everything you said about the "angel face" moments that Bret is captured in, I am shocked that you pointed out your memories of the paintings and artistic interpretations that you grew up noticing - I remember those too and that is directly where angel face came from. Still - his face is beautiful.

Jemaine's expressions - they MAKE the whole show I think. I love it how sometimes Jemaine's mouth will move a little and nothing will come out when he's annoyed about something. . . have you noticed that?

Thanks for the compliment about my posts - made my day!

Hey, meherenow, were you by any chance a big Six Feet Under fan back in 2004? I just had to ask when I notice the similarity of our registration dates on these boards. FotC is the most obsessed I have been with a show since SFU. I used to post there too. Your postings are great btw.

Bret does have an "angel face" -in fact, my having grown up Catholic and being exposed to lots of paintings of angels and saints, he really does look like his face could be right there among them, especially with the long curly hair. I think this thought struck my subconscious during the Ep 11 Frodo Don't Wear The Ring video where they show all their faces in kind of like "halos" of light.

I have not seen Ep 11 twice (unlike most others), but parts of it I have seen a few times and with closed captioning courtesy of our 19-year-old. He is more obsessed than I and has a better memory. He's also the first one to figure out the closed captioning on our TV after I mentioned someone's post about it at dinner one night. His face lit up like "YEAH" and the next thing I know he's there in the family room with captioning on our big screen watching FotC over and over. He insisted I notice Dave's face when they say "Oh... we made it" so I saw tha sequence a few dozen times. Not even as funny as Jemaine watching the girls kiss in Ep 10, not even close (in my opinion). That was the funniest facial expression of all.

The context was that Bret accused Jemaine of using a vacuum cleaner hose to make a hickey-looking mark on his neck and say it was a love bite. Bret said that it had to be a vacuum cleaner hose because it was perfectly round. That was a riot.

I don't like the Sally character either. She's very annoying and even the thoughts of her gives me chills. No reflection though on the actress. Loved her in "Road Trip."

I agree with the below poster who requested Business Time Video Clip. I love that song!! There is actually a Flight of the Conchords page on myspace with business time on it but Jemaine sounds terrible compared to the cut on the actual show. If you guys could put up the actual video clip that would be even better. LOVE THE SHOW! Keep up the good work!!

My favorite line from this episode (forgive me if I'm off a word or two), is from "Business Time":

You know when I'm down to my socks, it's business time. That's why the call them business socks.

Priceless.

The best scene, though, was Jemaine telling Bret Coco dumped him, and having every line & response to Bret's questions.
B: Can we talk about it?
J: We already are, I think.

This show kicks arse.

It really would have been funny if they'd tried to have a Limbo contest in Jemaine's cupboard. :)
