I haven't had HBO in a good 2 years (too cheap to buy it), but I love the Bill Maher show so much that I'm keeping it. And by having HBO, I now get to catch up on a gang of hilarious episodes of Def Comedy Jam. I've been laughing myself silly for the past 4 hours watching old episodes, but I stopped laughing when I saw the dates go across Rasheed's name. I got straight on Google to find out why he died. While I'm relieved that it wasn't a Black man killing another Black man, I'm caught offguard that he died of a heart attack. That's messed up. He was funny as hell too. I'm glad he got to have a moment like that before he passed. I hope his family can remember all the funny moments in his life.

First want to say thank you to Mr. Simmons for keeping black comedy going on a national level. Second I was in aw when I saw the comedian Rasheed . He had comedy that I could relate to. It brought tears to my eyes when I saw such a great comic had passed on at such a very young age.

I was taken aback when I heard about Rasheed the comedian. Such a young promising talent. I talked with him back in October when he performed at Club Essence. I told him if I was a few years younger we would be an item. Fine and funny to boot. My condolences to the family. Peace and love to those who knew you and God bless you Rasheed. R. I. P.

Hello, I just finished watching the show and was stund by the posting regarding the comedian Rasheed. When I saw the dates, both dates, I was shocked, sadden, and confused - he was so young so I had to go to my computer for clarification. Thanks for the posting reg. the circumstances of his passing. My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends and may God bless you, I am so sorry for this loss. Please remember that you will be able to smile again remembering Rasheed's humor, love, and presence - and it's even been memorialized in film. The way to honor a lost love is to remember them in thoughts, words, and deeds.

Comedian Rasheed Thurmond Passes Away From Heart Attack

Brooklyn?s own Rasheed Thurmond passed away of a heart attack this week. Who is Rasheed Thurmond? You may have seen him on Diddy?s Bad Boys of Comedy, Def Comedy Jam, or maybe you?re local and caught his act live at The Apollo.

One thing is for sure, every time Rasheed performed he had the people doing all that LOL and LMDFAO stuff.

It?s crazy to think that someone so young (36) and happy would have heart problems. One reason why pomegranate juice is my new best friend.

Here are some YouTubes of a brotha that went too soon. R.I.P.

that is a true shame. It all seems so crazy, this young successful brother gone at 36. Man, it really makes you stop and think. There is a websight called shenyurt.com that I went to today after watching the show ( i googled him) that talks about him like he is alive. what the he**, have they got a clue. My heart goes out to his family. Truely a great loss.

I too was taken by surprise when I saw the latest episode and Rasheed's birth and death dates appeared. He was the funniest up-and-coming comedian out here with alot of star quality. Maybe HBO should give some sort of tribute to him, I'm sure his HBO fans would love that. R.I.P. Rahseed.

Hi,
I too was watching the Def Comedy show last night on HBO and noticed that Comedian-Rasheed looked as if he'd lost some weight. I was too outdone to view the date of birth and death at the end. I logged on today to ask the same question as everyone else...what happend to Rasheed? I thought that by logging on and finding his photo on the front page, that you all would have had an article on his passing. I think it would be great to forward this info on to his/ Def Comdey Jam's fans/viewers.
I would like to send condolences to the family and will miss him being part of the line-up. He was FUNNNNNNNYYYYY!!! Not to mention that deep baratoned, sexy-@$$ voice he had. Please let us know.

I just wanted to know if anyone has info on how the last comedian Rasheed passed away. I thought he was very funny and was caught a little off guard when I saw the dates at the end of his act.

I thought the show was funny, especially RASHEED- then I noticed the dates at the bottom of the screen - 11-27-2007 - this comic was the best--does anyone have any info?

I thought the B-More police officer was funny!

The word bitch bothers me more than the word nigger. If we know our history, we know it'll take more than calling us niggers to hold us back. The black community/America has way more pressing issues, like violence, the state of black families, school resegregation etc. to address.

The sex talk is a little out of control on Def Jam and sometimes just is raunchy and not funny.

I don't know if Barack (spelling?) can unify the country in four years but his platform makes sense. Barack the vote!!!

Just finished seeing DL Hughley, hosting Def Comedy Jam. I like DL, he's brilliantly intelligent, outspoken and usually "right on the money" on most topics. My comment is the following: Why do y'all, on Def Comedy Jam, Def Poetry Jam, in any stand-up setting, and on the streets of Brooklyn, Houston, Chicago and in so many other settings, need to call yourselves and each other, "niggers?" Aren't there enough of us white a**holes still around to insult you? Do you really need to maintain yourselves as a persecuted underclass by insulting yourselves as well? This is much more than a casual curiosity for me, as my five-year-old son is Black - not Barack Obama black, but more like Kevin Garnett black, which I love - no "massa pokin'round the slave quarters" in his ancestry! I know that it will be part of my duty as Jay's father, to help him grow into his Black identity, and I sure don't want to be raising no "oreo," but I'll be damned if I'll ever tolerate hearing him use that word! Do you think Barack Obama has ever called himself, or anyone else, a nigger? How about Dr. Martin Luther King, or even Malcolm X? A funny story for you: just a week or two ago, my son's arm was lying across my arm; he looked down, then looked into my eyes and said, "Daddy, you need to go back in the oven!" After I was finally able to catch my breath from laughing so hard, I finally told him, "Yeah, Jay, you're right." I just loved it, because it symbolized the fact that he has great self-esteem, thinking that his skin color is "correct," and there must be something wrong with me for not having beautiful, brown skin like his. I hope he always sees things that way, and never gets beaten down by society, including people of his own race calling him a "nigger." Please, please help me to make this a world where my son, and all of your children, can reach their full potential in society. Barack, I believe, can be the one to bring us together, so we can fight against the many problems we face, some of which threaten our very existence as a nation, a species and a planet. Let's teach our children how beautiful they are, each of them, and not teach them to settle for "second-class-citizen status" by thoughtlessly throwing around hateful, hurtful words.
