Preview... It has come to my Attention (Not surprisingly) that a made-for-TV (and CD) Documentary re. 'Jesus Barabbas' will air on HBO sometime this fall. "Barabbas" has been the object of my attention since I was about eleven or twelve years old... I suppose that I might be a 'lay expert' on the subject, -the man, his teachings, mission or purpose in life and, perhaps more importantly, why he seems to be anathema... -particularly to and among 'Christians'. 'Barabbas', described in the Holy Gospels as "a notorious robber, murderer and insurrectionist", was a 'thorn in my side' for the better part of 50 years, -not because of a perverse interest in the criminal mind or the wayward heart, rather, because of my own lack of knowledge and understanding of the term: "notorious" whereby Nobody seems to know anything about him. (If he was 'notorious', why doesn't anybody know anything about him... why is there nothing else written?) Imagine, if you will, my shock and amazement when I learned that "Barabbas" was and is not his name, -his name, originally written in the Greek Gospel according or attributed to Matthew (27:17) was "Jesus". Whoa. His name was omitted from the Latin translation (around 390 c.e.) and most of the sub-sequential translations thereafter. "Barabbas" is what "Jesus" was called, -it is an Aramaic appellation, -the meaning of which is: Bar = Son + Abba = Father (as in the Father of us all or God). Therefore, this particular and enigmatic man was named "Jesus" and was called (the) 'Son of God' Double whoa. This "Jesus", the actual 'Son of God' (?), stood on the stage of ecclesiastical history's most celebrated and dramatic hour, like a potted plant of poison ivy, said nothing whatsoever to anybody (nobody said anything to him), is 'chosen to be released in honor of the Passover' by the assembled Jewish multitude and is incongruently set free... Where did he come from... where did he go...? Why was he even 'there'? What was the point of even mentioning him at all? As in everything I have ever read concerning "Barabbas", I have always come away disappointed... at the same old acquiescent and very unsatisfactory 'Christian' (theological) view. Not having seen the upcoming 'Documentary'... I wonder... Will the Producers inform its audience with answers as to 'why' "Jesus Barabbas" is obfuscated? I tend to doubt it... Circumstantial evidence that sheds light on at least one avenue (or 'road') of thoughtful speculation... Saul of Tarsus. While on the road to Damascus, Saul, -aka the Apostle and eventual Saint Paul, had an epiphany... a 'brilliant' flash of insight, as it were... and 'killed a number of birds with one or two stones' so to speak... Young Saul is the namesake and of the tribe of Benjamin (Romans 11:1) and a direct descendant of the very 1st (anointed) king of the Jews. King Saul was a great disappointment to 'the Lord', moreover, King Saul failed to heed the Lord's' command. Rebuked and stripped of kingly authority, he "fell upon his own sworn" (ostensibly to avoid being captured)... Nevertheless, this abominable act brought everlasting dishonor and shame to his family and tribe... not to mention a certain denial of any of his family and heirs of ever attaining the kingship ever again. Think you that young Saul, a flunk-out Pharisaic student (of Gamaliel) and temple thug, was indifferent to or unaware of the expected arrival of 'the descendant of David and Jewish messiah'... come to claim his lawful inheritance of kingship over the Jews... by armed insurrection? Young Saul was born and raised in the hatred of all things re. 'the descendants of David... and the Jewish messiah'. His jealousy and resentment towards 'the descendants and the Jewish messiah' knew no bounds... Saul craved his life-long nemesis dead... obliterated and, forgotten forever... never to be heard of or from ever again. ...and with a 'flash of insight' (while pursuing 'Christians' when there were no 'Christians'), it came to him... Literally replace 'Judas the Galilean' (and/or his son, Judas bar Judas) with (the ghost of) "Christ" and, 'switch' "Jesus" for... "Jesus". Who would know otherwise? (Besides, if anyone should 'know'... kill him... and destroy all that is written and/or declare 'Heretical' that which is contrary to My ('Paul's' and his cohorts: Mark and Luke) imposed 'Holy Gospels'. ...Dead and buried is 'the descendant of David and Jewish messiah', his actual name is not even known, much less discussed... (Nobody 'prays' for the 'blessings' or return of "Judas"), his Jewish 'messiah-ship' is converted to the Greek philosophical notion of "Christ"and, I, Saul -aka Paul am revengefully 'justified'... the true creator and actual founder of 'Christianity'. Whoa. Expect the above scenario to be presented...? I doubt it. I also 'doubt' that very much 'light' (if any) will be shed upon "Jesus Barabbas", -his life, teachings, mission or purpose in life... But, 'let not your heart be troubled'... I'll be back to present 'the secret story of Jesus before the Holy Gospels were written... after the broadcast of "Jesus Barabbas" (or whatever title it is presented under)... Roland, a reluctant iconoclast.

> the more correct translation would actually be "son > of the father" which if my understanding serves me > correct Jesus never called himself son of the father > but rather son of god. > > fail. Granted, as previously stated: [Jesus] "Bar=Son + Abba=Father (as in the Father (or Creator) of us all, i.e. 'God'). Further, "Jesus" (which?) never called himself 'Barabbas' or the 'Son of God', -His followers obviously did, He was (notoriously) known and called as such by others... Pilate is 'documented' as referring to Him as "Jesus Barabbas" or, in other words: The man named Jesus who is called Barabbas (the Son of the Father or God). This Post is about 'Jesus Barabbas', -not about "Jesus Christ". I have no comment, -nor have I commented re. "Jesus Christ", -save that they were 'switched' in both person and mission (at least 'literally' if not in fact). I, personally, doubt that a man named "Jesus" who is called "Kristos" (in Greek and "Christ" in English) was crucified by Pontius Pilate, rather that Jesus Barabbas (the Son of the Father or God) was set free (as is 'documented') and, Judas the Galilean (or his son: Judas bar Judas, -as is 'documented', -see Acts 5:37)... renamed "Jesus" and called "Christ" was crucified.
