For kids growing up in the shadow of Hollywood (where image is everything), money can be a complicated and confusing thing. In award-winning filmmaker/photographer Lauren Greenfield's short film Kids + Money, several young people in Los Angeles discuss money: getting it, spending it, and learning to live with and without it. Premieres Friday, November 28 at 7:00pm ET/PT.

I have to agree 110%! Too funny, isn't it? The difference between our generation and this one?

MyBeanz, I couldn't have said it better myself! I have three (eeeeek!) teenagers, ages 19, 17 and 15. While they are wonderful, intelligent kids, they too suffer from the same attitude you describe in your post. I think this is probably very common among teens, because of the culture we live in. In an age of reality shows, 15 minutes of fame, and celebrities that do bad things but rarely suffer for it, it's not hard to see where they get it from. It's not hopeless, but it sure makes a parent's job that much more challenging! -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

Are they still showing this? I would really like to get my son to see just what really happens with money and fame. He is going to really have a wake up call come time for college. He thinks he is going to have a free ride and going to go out and make all kinds of money. I sure wish I knew what world he was living in because it is not mine.

I couldn't agree more, newpctech. Unfortunately, that's not the message the kids in our society is getting. What they are hearing is, money equals respect, power and status. The whole point is to get money, and alot of it as quickly as possible. This is a message we hear and see in music, videos, film, tv and it's literally pounded into their heads daily. As parents, if we want to send them the message that "money doesn't buy happiness" need to stop putting so much emphasis on buying all those things that say opposite. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

Kids in general need to understand what money is, where it comes from and why parents need to cut back on building a nation of "entitled" kids. No one is going to hand you anything and you sure as HELL aren't owed anything.

This should be a very interesting piece. I guess when I think of kids and money, I think of priviledged children who want for nothing, who take their wealth for granted and have a very distorted look on the world. Don't get me wrong, I realize how important money is but when you have it in excess, when things come easy to you, it just have to affect your personality in some way. Am I right? Half right? Wrong? -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host
