This is a great idea, and one I would love to see! I have to comment, though, that it isn't just young brides being left at home anymore, it is young husbands also. I was in a college class a couple years ago, and this guy, about 23 years old, was very upset. I asked him what was wrong. He explained that his wife was being deployed, and that he would be home alone with their two infant twin daughters while trying to juggle full time work and full time school. He eventually had to drop out of school. It was heartbreaking.

Another thought I had about a documentary would be focusing on the unique dynamics of the military family, meaning the spouses and children left behind for long deployments. Alot of these families consist of young brides, still teens really, facing very long separations, often with infants or very young children, and zero coping skills. Marriages flounder, some come to home to changes they didn't expect. Soldiers coming home after months in hostile situations leaning how to cope with everyday life again. The military's response to how to keep these families, especially the very young ones, together. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

With the election quickly approaching I'd like to see an in depth study on the voting process this time around. They could focus on one of the state's that had problems in the past. Florida would be a good example. I found Recount and Hacking Democracy very interesting to watch. They could actually film things in real time this next election. -- __________________________ Jaydes HBO Forums Host

I agree! Great ideas! I like both the community focus and the author focus. Both would draw my attention for sure!

Or perhaps feature several successful vampire-genre writers. In the case of Stephenie Meyer, she reminds me alot of J.K. Rowling, in the sense that she kind of rose from obscurity to superstardom with a groundbreaking series of books. The fan base for Meyer is astounding, and like the Potter series, encompasses a broad range of readers beyond what it was originally intended. Perhaps in the case of Meyer, if the movie Twilight is successful, there might be enough interest. Combined with the success of True Blood, I think a good documentary could come out of this. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

I know another series they did make a few films for was Anne Rice's vampire series. It does seem like a popular subject, maybe they could even focus on one of the authors? -- __________________________ Jaydes HBO Forums Host -- Edited by Host_Jaydes at 09/24/2008 12:50 PM PDT -- Edited by Host_Jaydes at 09/24/2008 12:50 PM PDT

On the subject of new documentaries, with all the buzz about the terrific new HBO series "True Blood", and the wildly popular book series Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I did a little amateur research and saw that there exists quite a vibrant vampire community both online and off. I wonder if a documentary about the offline world of "vampires" might be of interest? -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

There are some really great ideas here! And LOL @ after school specials! Sadly, many celebs fall from grace. Some just don't seem wired to cope with all that goes with being in the public eye. I know I could never live like that. I am a very private person. I couldn't imagine ;living under a microscope.

I just think that it's so sad, as it often is with people who end up doing drugs and therefore silencing their God-given talent because of it. It's like they approach that fork in the road, where one path leads them to possible success and fullfillment, and the other is a dark, dangerous path that leads to their destruction. I want to know what was behind her downfall, and not just the drugs, because I think it was that and a combination of things. To me, it's compelling in addition to heart-wrenching to find out how people with so much to give fall from grace. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host -- Edited by Host_Ginna at 09/13/2008 9:57 AM PDT

I would be interested in seeing an in depth look at the fall of songstress Amy Winehouse. When I first saw her, I was drawn in by her sultry, provocative voice and her distinctive sound. I think it would be interesting to find out how her downward spiral began: from the beginnings of a really promising career to the depths of drug abuse, illness, parents who are helpless to stop her drug use and her volatile, co-dependent marriage. So sad to see such talent go unrealized because of drug use. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

I really liked the film "The Recruiter" that was just on and I'd like to see more movies like that please. I like that it just showed the way things are, without a clear point of view one way or the other. We need more good journalism like that to help us all understand one another in this red state/blue state country we live in!
