What new documentary do YOU want to see on HBO?

If you could pick the next big project, what would it be?

Wow I really love this idea! I think it would be really fascinating for people who have no idea what an online community is to tune in and learn something. I think there are still some misconceptions out there about how people interact online. I guess it could reaffirm the positives and negatives of the online experience for people, depending on which side of the fence they sit on. :)

What about one about Thomas Beatie, the media dubbed "pregnant man"? Chronicle in depth his journey from female to male and all that being transgendered entails, meeting his wife Linda, and finally becoming pregnant. Perhaps touch upon the issue of a transgendered being one sex on the outside but still retaining some of the reproductive organs of the other and whether or not that is a conflict or not? What do you all think?

Due to the recent decisions made in California I'd like to see one done on Prop 8. All sides can be discussed and how the backward/forward steps this has taken.

No shortage at all! I would love to see these dynamics portrayed in a series or documentary.

I am sure there would be no shortage of stories for a documentary of this type.

This is a great idea, and one I would love to see! I have to comment, though, that it isn't just young brides being left at home anymore, it is young husbands also. I was in a college class a couple years ago, and this guy, about 23 years old, was very upset. I asked him what was wrong. He explained that his wife was being deployed, and that he would be home alone with their two infant twin daughters while trying to juggle full time work and full time school. He eventually had to drop out of school. It was heartbreaking.

Another thought I had about a documentary would be focusing on the unique dynamics of the military family, meaning the spouses and children left behind for long deployments. Alot of these families consist of young brides, still teens really, facing very long separations, often with infants or very young children, and zero coping skills. Marriages flounder, some come to home to changes they didn't expect. Soldiers coming home after months in hostile situations leaning how to cope with everyday life again. The military's response to how to keep these families, especially the very young ones, together.

With the election quickly approaching I'd like to see an in depth study on the voting process this time around. They could focus on one of the state's that had problems in the past. Florida would be a good example.

I found Recount and Hacking Democracy very interesting to watch. They could actually film things in real time this next election.

I agree! Great ideas! I like both the community focus and the author focus. Both would draw my attention for sure!

I think they could. Or perhaps feature several successful vampire-genre writers. In the case of Stephenie Meyer, she reminds me alot of J.K. Rowling, in the sense that she kind of rose from obscurity to superstardom with a groundbreaking series of books. The fan base for Meyer is astounding, and like the Potter series, encompasses a broad range of readers beyond what it was originally intended. Perhaps in the case of Meyer, if the movie Twilight is successful, there might be enough interest. Combined with the success of True Blood, I think a good documentary could come out of this.

I have watched the first few shows of the True Blood series and it has caught my attention. I know another series they did make a few films for was Anne Rice's vampire series. It does seem like a popular subject, maybe they could even focus on one of the authors?

I couldn't either. For all the money and fame their profession brings them, I wonder if it's worth it at all? Sure, the wealth would be nice but being hounded and photographed everywhere you go, ALL the time? Your kids being hounded all the time? No thanks!

On the subject of new documentaries, with all the buzz about the terrific new HBO series "True Blood", and the wildly popular book series Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I did a little amateur research and saw that there exists quite a vibrant vampire community both online and off. I wonder if a documentary about the offline world of "vampires" might be of interest?
