I find it tragically humorous that the UN did nothing to help during the 100 days, but with a straight face, stands up to prosecute the leaders of the genocide. What right do they have? When we needed them, they failed us.

Although this film moved me, it's a shame that I'm moved twelve years after the fact. I don't remember hearing much about it in the media at the time. But that's America. A boat load of cubans...welcome to the US. A raft of Hatians...we have no room for you here. This country has the finest racist policies I've experienced to date. As a Black US Marine, I've fought in countries that once liberated, and I got a chance to meet some of the people, I wished we would have let them fend for themselves. For what we are supposed to stand for, Rwanda would've been the place to be. Unfortunately, I was in Europe fighting for the rights of people who couldn't stand me because of the color of my skin. Forget about the fact that I just saved their way of life. One good thing about HBO, they fear not. Too bad the rest of our media outlets aren't the same. Maybe one day, someone other than an entertainment outlet will really tell it like it is. Good job HBO/Mr. Peck.

This film is one of my favorits. It also takes the audiance by heart to a plan of an unemagonable tomorrow. Your wife, your children, your friends and your loved ones all taken away becouse their ethnisity. Sometimes, we forget how good our lives. Sometimes we don't know how good they are. And sometimes, we don't care. This movie woke me to realize that I don't have to think of how good my life is, but only, how good it didn't have to be.

Great film. Also we have to remember there was another African country in need before Rwanda called Somalia. After what happened there, i don't think any "white/European" wanted to be involved in another conflict in Africa.

I work for the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha, Tanzania. On behalf of many of my colleague in Tanzania and Rwanda, we found this film very moving. Most of us liked it more than "Hotel Rwanda" as it provided a more humble viewpoints of the individuals and how there were victims on all sides of this tragedy. The court scenes at the Tribunal should remind the world of the important obligation we all have to ensure justice is served for such atrocities -- it certainly made us feel proud to be such an integral part of it, and renewed our energy in the humanitarian principles of our work.

i am so glad the stories of the genocide are being tald finally. i was starting to get worried. well i was there in 1994 during the genocide. my family and i were the fortunate souls that were granted the asulum to come to USA. it almost make us feel so unworthy to be in such great country especially knowing such great people who were brutally assassinated including my Mother.i trully feel that for such a poor country that can be changed economically by just a few millions of dollars it would have taken hopefully no more than two weeks to contain most of the killings as it was rather systematic. everyone saw it coming and getting worst day by day and nothing happened as to any possible help, until it was too late. i have heard most people say well, well, if those people want to kill each other let them: but yet Cossovo had (almost)similar events look how long it took to save the inocent women and children, look how many efforts that were put in to help. if not for the people who were killed the world would have help just for the rape victimes during those 100 days (Girls and boys, women and children)one day that passed without intervention put one more victim in harm way. at times like that it is not about who is already harmed, but who is about to be kept from harm. just one day too late made a huge difference.the portrayal of this movie (documentary)would hopefully open our eyes for the future and help us to prevent another "randan genocide" some place else.Idris part reminds me of many husbands, fathers, brothers that were struggling with all of us. i am thankful to HBO for its faithful portrayal of the events (unlike many others)there are so many genocide survival in USA whose thankful hearts are pleased to see this documentary including my widowed father.thank you!!!

I was only ten in 1994. My innocent mind would not have been able to believe such hate exists in this world. As a young american woman I can only imagine the sheer terror that became a reality for so many of these people. This movie was to a certain degree monumental for me, because it brings so many things to light about the world, and more importantly, america. I don't think I've ever watched a movie that made me cry on such a deep level. The scene where they killed an entire room of school girls is what did it. It shook my core and I was trembling because it hit home. Thank you HBO. It was an experience.

You all need to realize how the USA government works. It seems dumb that even the most slight evidence of "mass destruction weapons" is discovered america rushes to iraq. But after millions of voices many a physical evidence it doesn't do anything. Like it said interest is what most presidents think about. I mean why rush a country into a war just to help a tiny country? But they don't know anything. If u were there what would u have done? If ur child was trapped in there what would u have done? Don't say it was too quick since the real killings started in 1990. So now what are u going to blame it on others? Are u going to sya it's "a tragedy that will never be allowed to happen again"? well wich ever remember always the value of a life. And know this though it may have affected others less. Those who were there suffered. And "i am sorry" really should cover evrything up??

I have to say that this movie was outstanding. It really gave me such insight to the genocide in Rwanda. It has inspired me to search all the information I could find to learn more and read the word of what happened and how we as human beings can support the survivors. I wish I was taught about this much earlier. I never knew about Rwanda or what happened until last year. I have to agree that the reaction would be much different if this happened in Greece or Finland. Hotel Rwanda is going to be the next movie I see as well.

I think it would be naive to think that the worlds reaction to the massacre wouldn't have been different if Rwandans were predominantly white. If something like that happened in Greece or Finland the reaction would have been much different. After seeing "Sometimes In April" Hotel Rwanda is easily the next movie I want to see

Nope we didn't do anything either. Canadians hid behind the fact that our army isn't very powerful and just waited until the U.S. did something. I don't mean to say canadians are morally superior to americans, that is not the case.

Did the Canadian government do anything to prevent this massacre or to provide assistance to Rwanda in any form during this massacre?????

I think all nations should have come together to try and prevent this God awful tragedy from occurring, not just the USA.

As Idris Elba commented in the Making of Sometimes in April (This is not a direct quote), but he commented that the Rwandan genocide is a human problem, not only Africans, not only Americans, etc etc etc ......

I find that when Black people are in need rather they be Africans, Haitians etc.... there is a lack of assistance world wide.

What a shame!!!!!!!!
