It is 2007 you need to get over your prejudice and yourself.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. MY FATHER WAS YOUR TYPICAL COUNTRY DOCTOR WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS MOVIE, HAD HE LIVED TO SEE IT. THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. WHAT VIVIEN THOMAS BECAME WAS WONDERFUL. HE WAS A GREAT MAN WHO, UNFORTUNATELY, DIED BEFORE HIS TIME. GOD REST HIS SOUL, BLESS HIS WONDERFUL FAMILY, AND GOD BLESS JOHNS HOPKINS FOR GIVING HIM THE RECOGNITION HE SO RIGHTFULLY DESERVED. MY TEARS WILL TAKE A LONG TIME TO DRY

This movie had way, way too much scientific jargon that made it unbearable to watch. It's like the writers were trying to wow us with all the fancy words, like using them proves they or the characters actually know something about medicine. One of the scenes that comes immediately to mind with regard to this subject is when Mos Def's character is a butler at one of the surgeon's parties. There he manages to sneak in some "clever" interjections during someone else's conversation, supposedly making himself appear smart. First of all--- hello, annoyingly rude. Second of all, I'm sure that the doctors having the conversation knew already what "pulmonary stenosis" was without Mumbling Bumblefruck's help.

Smart people use simple words. Look at George Bush. OK, bad example.

This story had me literally weeping for a good part of the movie. What a touching story of courage, the quest for knowledge, skill and persistence. I cannot even begin to say how deeply this story has touched me. I wish that I could tell this man THANK YOU for not giving up on his dreams. I wish I could tell his parents thank you for what they taught their children.

Hopefully his family is watching the message board so they can feel the gratitude out there for Dr. Thomas. Despite the fact that he was eventually appropriately honored, there is no way that he (or they) could ever know how many people he touched in such a POSITIVE way.

What a wonderful way to memorialize this man in such a beautiful movie. Thank you, HBO.

My little girl was just five days old when she had the BT Shunt procedure. We had no idea when she was born that she had heart defects. She was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Right Heart and Pulmonary Stenosis. It was devastating and frightening.

My husband and I just watched this movie, which was first shown on May 30, 2004... just one day after our daughter's birth. Isn't that a coincidence? We were fascinated by the movie and how the procedure was developed. I felt so bad for Vivian Thomas, but also "so" thankful for his skills! If it weren't for these men, so many children would have been lost.

We are asking all of our family and friends to rent this movie and watch it. If just for the benefit of learning a little bit about heart surgery with babies... or to try and understand how scarey this was for us, as parents.

Bravo to HBO and to the cast. I would hug all of you if I could!

Sincerely,

Shannon

I was either the 13th or 16th person to have this procedure and I was six years old at the time of the surgery sometime during the summer of 1945.

I was a success story for this procedure, which was only a temporary fix, lasted until my sophomore year in college. By that time, open heart surgery was being used and I was operated on my C. Walton Lillihei (this might not be the correct spelling) who took my case though he said I had only a 15 percent chance of surviving. Without it, though, I had no chance to survive for more than one year.

I am now 66 and have led a reasonably normal life. I am married and worked for more than 40 years as a sports writer in Tennessee and Virginia. I now have a pacemaker and there have been some other problems medically associated with my heart. However, doctors who treat me and those whom I met at a 50th anniversary of the open heart procedure last fall in Minneapolis believe I am truly a miracle man.

I remember little about Blalock and Taussig, but I do remember scooting was the picture portrayed blue babies doing.

I consider myself very lucky indeed to have been operated on by two excellent heart teams.

Thank You - Thank You - Thank you -- Cannot begin to say enough! Something the Lord Made is one of the best films I've even seen, this is a masterpiece! I picked up the film knowing nothing about it but because Mos Def was in it and he's a great shining star (thank God I love Mos Def). Actually I loved all the casting for this movie, what a wonderful group of actors.

HBO please make more film like this one, the history of our nation is so important and this film sheds light on a time in our nation that we often don't want to talk about, think about or remember. But its so important! Also its so important for us to see the devistating affects of racism in our nation and to also see examples of how people triumph. Vivian was a MAN in every since of the word, no matter what the world said to him at that time, he knew who he was and shared it. We must know the contributions of all Americans, and this is something we are not taught and film is that wonderful medium that not only entertains but can be used to educate!

I can not say enough about this film and can't wait to tell everyone I know about it. Once again thank you so much, and please keep making movies like this one!

This is excellence in every form. I felt so sorry for Dr. Thomas. I've seen this situation so many times and it's heartbreaking. Mos Def is great in this role. Great! I hope he gets an Emmy nomination.

I just finished this excellent film. My father is a retired surgeon and I was always amazed at all he could do to help others.

My heart broke to know that Dr. Thomas was never able to achieve the medical degree that he so dearly desired. It was gratifying to know that he was honored appropriately later in life. What he endured prior to that was so unfair. Yet how thankful the world should be that he did not allow the horrible treatment he received at the hands of ignorant people to stop him from pursuing his greatest happiness.

I was just overwhelmed by this beautiful film.

This movie was amazing for me as I have a blue baby. She would have never made it past a month old if it wasn't for these doctors who went where no one wanted to go...I thank them from the bottom of my soul for what they did to help put cardiac science where it is now I don't know what the future holds for her and her complex conginital heart defect but if there are more doctors like that out thereI know it will be promising!!! THank you so much HBO for sharing their story with us!

We were just blown away by our first viewing of this outstanding film. Now that it is out on DVD, I am sure we will get our own copy to watch it again and again.

The atrocities of those times came across even louder through the understated approach used in this film. The messages were clear....this was a great man who overcame the insults of the times he lived in to contribute to mankind in a way that lives on long after his life ended.

Thank you Dr. Thomas for your strength and talents.

Thank you Mos Def for playing the role so well.

And thank you HBO for presenting such a heartwarming and soul searching film.

Everytime I see Mos Def in a movie, I am amazed and excited about all of the possibilities he has in acting.

I hope to see more of him in music and movies. Thank you HBO for continuing to bring wreck to the movie industry!

At times I must admit I would rather watch HBO than go to the movies!:)
