There are many agendas for nuclear power! North Korea showed the world the political value of nuclear weapons. An article said that the water table under Jerusalem is radioactive from their old leaking reactor. Nuclear power will sunset with the next melt- down. ------------------------------- Nuclear energy: New report highlights nuclear decline in spite of industry talk of renaissance The role of nuclear energy is in decline, according to a report 'World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2007' presented by the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament today. The report outlines that the proportion of nuclear energy in power production has decreased in 21 out of 31 countries, with five less functioning nuclear reactors than five years ago. There are currently 32 nuclear power plants under construction or in the pipeline, 20 fewer than at the end of the 1990s. Commenting on the report and this nuclear decline, German Green MEP and energy spokesperson Rebecca Harms stated: "In stark contrast to the claims of the nuclear industry and its talk of a renaissance, nuclear energy is in decline. The shrinking of nuclear in Europe is particularly notable, with ten power plants being permanently withdrawn from the network since the last report in 2004.With fewer plants being built and existing plants becoming more decrepit, it seems clear that the grandiose ambitions of the nuclear industry will remain in the realm of fantasy." False promises for a nuclear revival could lead to misplaced public expenditure, delaying a more intelligent and sustainable approach to energy supply. In addition, plans for building new reactors would be in direct competition for the limited manufacturing capacity that is already stretched by the maintenance costs for existing (aging) reactors. "The gap between the expectations being promoted by the nuclear industry and reality are perfectly highlighted by the bungled attempt to build a new reactor at the Olkiluoto plant in Finland. This first new nuclear project in 15 years has been blighted by problems. After only two years of construction the project is already two years delayed and the budget is set to be overrun by at least 50%, with 1.5 billion euro in losses and shocking errors in key technical specifications. Clearly, talk of a nuclear revival is divorced from reality and political leaders must call the nuclear industry's bluff," continued Rebecca Harms. "Nuclear energy is fraught with risk and these risks have in no way diminished. Attempts to position nuclear power as the panacea for climate change are misleading and dangerous. This report reveals that a nuclear revival is unlikely. We must ignore the nuclear smokescreen and focus on proven, clean technologies in response to the climate crisis we are facing." Worldwide, there is radioactive pollution from above-ground bomb tests. There is also the radioactive fallout from the Chernobyl accident in Europe and the former USSR. The fact that humans have already created large amounts of nuclear pollution, adds to the moral argument for allowing no more." http://www.ratical.com/radiation/CNR/YuccaMtnRWRP.html

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0308/S00219.htm The Roy Process is photon transmutation to zero radioactivity. This includes uranium 238, most of DU before it is exploded and can create electricity from the heat produced. In 1979, Roy announced his transmutation process and received international attention. The Roy process does not require storage of radioactive materials. No new equipment is required. In fact, all of the equipment and the chemical separation processes needed are well known. What`s the basis for the Roy Process? If you examine radioactive elements such as strontium 90, cesium 137 and plutonium 239, you will see that they all have too many neutrons. To put it very simply, the Roy process transmutes these unstable isotopes to stable ones by knocking out the extra neutrons. When a neutron is removed, the resulting isotope has a considerably shorter half-life which then decays to a stable form in a reasonable amount of time. How do we knock out neutrons? By bombarding them with photons (produced as x-rays) in a high- powered electron linear accelerator. Before this process, the isotopes must be separated by a well-known chemical process. It is feasible that portable units could be built and transported to hazardous sites for on-site transmutation of nuclear wastes and radioactive wastes. To give an example, cesium 137 with a half-life of 30.17 years is transformed into cesium 136 with a half-life of 13 days. Plutonium 239 with a half-life of 24,300 years is transformed into plutonium 237 with a half-life of 45.6 days. Subsequent radioactive elements which will be produced from the decay of plutonium 237 can be treated in the same way as above until the stable element is formed.

making an effort to be faithful to the Black Comedy tone of the original Ken Kalfus story was a great idea, though the director couldn't quite manage to convince me that Timofey and Shiv existed on the same planet...still,worth watching and a little little encouragement for those of us who are afraid that HBO has cancelled all the original, provocative shows and was commiting to lowest-common-denominator dreck...

Just finished watching this great show. I loved it. The gritty realism, the way that life meant nothing to most of the characters, the humanity of the father and his love for his wife and child, the corruption at all levels, the depiction of the criminal element, the sound track, the writing for the voiceover, it was all so good. HBO did it again. Reminded me of Citizen X from so long ago, even the lead characters were alike, men of character, seemingly worn down by the system, they even looked alike in their facial expressions. Great show

Dear Sir, From the first atom bomb in New Mexico 1945, everyone has man-made isotopes in their DNA. All of us eat, drink and breath it every day. As long as it pays the bills, you can murder the whole world. Pu-239 illustrates that nuclear power was the most lethal mistake mankind made and all we can do now is stop it from getting worse! The aim of nuclear power is spent fuel rods (nuclear waste) from which weapons are made. Atom bombs, easier are dirty bombs, so-called depleted uranium ordinance, not electricity, That is why 30 sovereign countries have nuclear power. Dr. John Gofman says there is no safe dose of man-made ionizing radiation. We should not add to it with new nuclear power plants. Nuclear power is the most dangerous form of electricity. It is the heat which makes steam that powers electric generators. Albert Einstein once said, "Nuclear power is one hell of a way to boil water". Liability is paid by the tax payer under the Price/Anderson Act. Electric rate payers subsidize nuclear power and waste disposal. There is big money and political power in nuclear waste, in killing people, in a toxic regime. Nuclear power pollutes the environment and will not stop global warming according to studies. http://members.cox.net/theroyprocess http://nuclearwaste-theroyprocess.blogspot.com/

Looking forward to watching this one tonight. I'm curious to see if Scott Burns can hold tension as a director the way he does as a screenwriter. (He co-wrote The Bourne Ultimatum). This is exec-produced by Section Eight, Clooney and Soderbergh's company, and they usually get behind good work. In the featurette, the filmmakers describe this as just as much a period piece as any film from decades ago. Here are more details and commentary for film fans: http://meetinthelobby.com/new-movie-preview-pu-239.html
