Sharper features. Daniels' portrayal was terrific, but of course he wasn't allowed to explore the same depths and subtleties in the context of a 2 1/2 hour musical that Giamatti has been able to in this series. Both wonderful portrayals of a complex and fascinating person, all the more so when you enjoy getting to know him in McCullough's book.

Just adding my two cents...Paul needs to win an Emmy. This is outstanding work, and as John Adams ages, we see more layers and more pathos out of Paul's performance. Great stuff! Just stellar work.

That was Zeljko Ivanek. I remember him as Ed Danvers in the old "Homicide-Life on the Street" TV show, but, happily, he shows up a lot in supporting roles. Good, huh? I think he did a nice job of showing us that Dickinson wasn't a monster, but an honorable man who was sticking to his guns, not backing off what he believed to be right...just like Adams, but on the opposite side of the issue.

I agree! Emmy award winning performance. PG is John Adams. I have cried with pride and wept with dispair. I am not so easily moved. I, too, do not want this series to end. And I have told everyone I can about it. It is that good. I didn't want the book to end either. I feel I came to know John and Abigail. Such awesome performances!

> And do not ever ever show Paul having sex please. > Yuck. I agree, however, that's pretty funny coming from a user by the name of seymorbutts! Bwha ha ha ha ha! Didja have a change of heart? I agree about the insect noise, too much, too loud, and no one attempts a swat to kill the rat bastids! I'm trying to decide if I can wait till after midnight each week to watch the current episode simply for the rewind feature of OnDemand! ~~~~ edited to correct typo -- Edited by jmts at 04/06/2008 8:36 PM PDT -- Edited by jmts at 04/06/2008 8:36 PM PDT

Like Paul, to me this series started out with a bang in the first two episodes and then got lost somehow. The sound editing or design is horrible and annoying. Creepy David Finchneresqe bug sounds in the garden louder than the talking. OK we get it they are outside!!!! THe overdone coughing to show he's sick. Yeah we have all been sick, we get it. OK stop the coughing. I hope it picks up or I'll bail on the entire thing. Never was too big on Tom Hanks idea of subtlety. And do not ever ever show Paul having sex please. Yuck.

I know if something was that loud next to me I would be waving them away.

I like Paul Giamatti, too, but either the sound of this movie is AWFUL or he whisper/mubled all of his lines or both. I think it's both, because in some scenes the bees and birds are louder than they should be. A good series about a great man but it's hard to watch because of the sound. Even in HD, it's not audible. On DVD with subtitles it will be much better.

Another movie that Paul was great in recently was "The Illusionist" with Edward Norton...another acting heavyweights. -- "Blue Spaniards!"

I first saw him in Howard Stern's 'Private Parts' as well. This guy is a genius. I always look forward to seeing him in any movie, series, whatever.

They did an exceptional job in finding the right actors to play these roles. I am so enjoying this series and just hate for it to end.
