I really enjoyed it. So far, the accounts have seemed historically accurate. However, I need to read more. My Goddaugher might question me about this one day.

Just finished watching the third episode of "John Adams". This spring I will visit Colonial Williamsburg and Mount Vernon, even though the scenes were in Paris, France.

First I am not a "professional critic," but I do know when I like what I see and I found everthing...and I mean everything about the first two (now three) episodes to my liking...camera work and all. The acting is wonderful...the make up...sets...casting...direction...everything! It is truly breathtaking! I find myself searching out the the reruns and anxiously awaiting Sunday evening...I love it!

I know no one has any idea how people sounded then, and I love Dillane's portrayal of Jefferson, but I'm not sure about the accent; it sounds almost Cockney at times. Would Jefferson not have had a more refined British accent tempered with various accents picked up from neighbors. His mother and uncles were Randolphs, after all, and they probably had upper-class British accents. Any thoughts?

The nose is perfect. Agreed on the Irish accent. Actually a lot of very Irish or Scotish accents not sounding very British at all. -- What if this is as good as it gets?

The camera angles are distracting and self-indulgent by whoever decided to use them. It really p's me off they would try a stupid gimmick like that in an otherwise pretty well done series. The other thing is GW's nose. David Morse looks a little like Jimmy Durante, no? I keep expecting him to go "cha-cha-cha-chaaa" when he opens his mouth. And that Quaker fella...is it Dickenson? Was this guy part Irish, or is it just a really bad attempt at British? Overall very well done, minus those blips.

Strongly agree with NAVANAX.... I have read the book and looked forward to the series.... only to be totaly turned off by the distracting camera work. Who on earth passed on all those crazy Dutch Angles? We have rooms looking like they just survived an earthquake, leaving one to wonder if old John had his shoes nailed to the floor, barns looking like they will topple over at any moment.. Unbelievably distracting from a great story. What ever was being attempted failed.

I agree with a previous poster. Whoever decided on the TERRIBLE cocked-and-crooked photography (along with some really bad shot composition) should be shot! Or tarred and feathered .. take your pick. I suppose it was done as a lame attempt to impart a feeling of urgency to the material. Bad move. It looks cheap and is very distracting. As for the rest of the show .. it's so-so, IMHO. Bring back Rome and Carnivale.

My husband & I loved it. I've just finished reading two books on the Revolutionary War (one of them McCullough's 1776), so I felt really "involved"! I love Abigail's strength & prudence. Did anyone else notice how she used restraint in her speech, allowing her husband to conduct his business without interference? That he relied on her counsel was inspiring & uplifting. I like Giammati anyway, but being used to his playing quirky characters, I wasn't sure if I could accept him as Adams. No problem. What an actor! Laura Linney is always wonderful, & David Morse as Washington was a knockout.

Dohnuts: "Well, I certainly hope you aren't the guy that wrote the review in the LA Times. Most of the review was negative." Nope - the only places where I review television are my own Infinite Regress blog, and occasionally for TVGuide.com And, in any case, my review was very positive (about the show - I do have problems with Adams when he becomes President - the real Adams, that is). I really enjoyed these first two episodes, and I think Paul Giamatti is doing such a great job bringing Adams to life. It's also interesting that Abigail Adams is suddenly in focus....I never learned anything about her importance in school. The difficulty of their everyday lives stands out in such contrast to ours today, which is pretty humbling. Great job, HBO!
