Based on the lives that inspired the Maysles Brothers' classic documentary, this HBO Films drama tells the story of "Big Edie" Beale (Jessica Lange) and her daughter "Little Edie" (Drew Barrymore), who forged a unique bond while living in a ramshackle East Hampton mansion. Premieres on HBO Saturday, April 18 at 8:00 p.m.

just reread a book about Victorian England and the author actually discusses "the spinster problem-what to do with "redundant' women."

Bf and I have had discussions about the Edies, I explained that women have a strong reaction to them-fear of being alone, poor, and unloved in old age.

I agree with the accent of Drew, It bothered me yet when I listen to the real Little Eddie speak I can't get enough of her...Maybe becuse I'm from that area and that's the way they talk on the Island.

I think Drew Barrymore delivered a huge massive trainwreck of a performance, like the kind where no one gets out alive. I was completely appalled by her TRYING to act through her terrible attempt at the accent. She was so focused on trying (and failing) to get the accent right that her acting suffered. It distracted me so much that I couldn't even pay attention to the story, it was THAT bad. Her dialect coach must have been cringing, they certainly had their work cut out for them. I think this would have been a good film if she wasn't in it. Her involvement with this film should had ended at the first reading.

This movie was so well done that at first I thought the footage I was watching was old clips from the original documentary that I've seen numerous times on Sundance. I can't believe what an excellent job Ms. Barrymore and Ms. Lange did imitating the Beales. Superb work!! Worth lots of accolades. Congrats to HBO for a movie so perfect and so true to the original characters.

I caught this movie last night at 8... and within the very first 5 minutes - I was hooked!! Drew Barrymore sooooo deserves an award for her performance in this fantastic film! As does Lange too! I wasn't going to watch it actually, just happened to have the channel on last night as it was just starting... well, let me tell you I cried for an hour AFTER the movie was over! It was so well done, and a very moving story! Kudos to HBO for one of the best movies I have seen in YEARS!!!! -- Countdown till Loonfest - 6 DAYS!!!

I thought it was terrific. I've already watched it twice. Drew did a wondeful job. Jessica was great as always. A sad story but fascinating all the same.

Does anyone know if there will be a soundtrack of this movie? I absolutely love the song that Big Edie & Little Edie dance to together. If anyone knows the name that would be great also.

I don't know if anyone cares but I found an article in Elle that said Drew wore Serge Lutens lipstick and Sensei Colors eyebrow pencil as the young Edie. Drew looked luminous!

I fell in love with these women, but I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get the makeup Drew wore as the young Edie, and the skirts...I hope some production designers see this. The metamorphosis of the house was amazing.
