In 2004, Lt. Col. Michael Strobl volunteered to escort home the body of a 19 year-old Marine killed in Iraq. It would prove to be a life-altering experience. Kevin Bacon stars as Strobl in this profoundly moving HBO Films drama that looks at the military rituals for honoring its war dead from the perspective of one fallen soldier named Chance Phelps.

I was moved by this movie more than words can say. I have it on the DVR and have watched it at least a half dozen times. And yeah, I cry each time I watch it, too.

I can not improve on the comments that have already been written on the movie of 'Taking Chance'. The movie was extremely powerful. I have seen it, I'm guessing six times. I see it on the schedule and I'm compelled it watch it. It's sad and makes me tear up, but it also makes me feel so good knowing that there are so many good people out there, it is very uplifting. Everyone should see this movie.

I watched it the day it came out...but on the 2nd showing I was kinda peeved at myself for missing the Premier. It was an outstanding Movie, the actors did a great job and it hit close to home with me. I did one tour in Somalia, and served our country completing my enlistment, although I did met and marry a man in the Army, I completed my obligation even after getting pregnant. I felt this was very important to do. Just like everyone did in their duty to seeing Chance get home. I was amazed by this true life story, it was a part of the military one really doesn't get to see. I knew about the "duty" when I was in the military but never knew just how many steps it required of the service member who preformed the duty. It touched my heart and made me proud to have served my country even if I didn't give my life in doing so. It was a deeply touching true life story and they did a wonderful job in bringing the story to TV. A big thank you goes out to the Chance Phelps family for allowing HBO to show the world this heart touching film.

After hearing so much buzz over the film, I finally had a chance to watch it. Overall, I think it was amazing. It shows the kind of love that strangers can have for each other in moments of grief. I became very emotional during a few scenes. I hope that more people get a chance to see it. -- I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

El1sa, it looks like they've already handed out the awards at Sundance, and our movie didn't win unfortunately. Here is the page on their website that has a link to the list of the winners for this year: http://festival.sundance.org/2009/film_events/awards/ -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

Host_Ginna, Thank you for posting this. I certainly hope "Taking Chance" wins such a prestigious award as the Grand Jury prize for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival!!! According to the Sundance site, prizes are being awarded currently ... however, I couldn't find when the Grand Jury prize will be awarded. Could you post the date? THANK YOU .. and THANK HBO for this incredibly moving (my husband and I have seen it 3 times thus far!) film. WE LOVE HBO!!!!!!!

The film has been nominated for a Grand Jury prize for the 2009 Sundance film festival. A well-deserved honor for such a life-changing film. I do hope this will bring even more attention to this incredible film, as I think it needs to be seen by as many people as possible. Especially those with doubts perhaps as to the ultimate sacrifices made by our men and women who sacrifice for us every day. -- ********* Host_Ginna HBO Forums Host

If there is any way HBO can have this film aired on all channels of regular TV and basic cable at some point, they should do it! EVERY American should see it! Well done as usual HBO!

I was able to watch this last night... OMG - what a moving, powerful story. KB was outstanding in his role! I was definitely crying on this one. Well done HBO, thank you for showing us just how much more we should appreciate and remember those men overseas sacrificing their lives for us. -- ~~And so the lion fell in love with the lamb...what a stupid lamb...what a sick masochistic lion...~~

I VCRed it and gave it to my brother, a vet...he's watching it now. My father would have loved this movie, and I told my brother to give it to my younger bro who is a vet. So a bunch of 50 + guys gonna be shedding as many tears as this movie releases. It's great how 'in shape' Kevin Bacon is. I was thinking the other night that if all these guys have to be in such good shape, maybe I can do it. I kicked butt raking up the backyard yesterday. It's a start. Brian in Connecticut

I still have not seen the whole film, but I cant turn it off when I catch it midway through. I have watched the second half of this film 4 times and cannot stop crying each time. I would like to thank LCpl. Phelps and his family for their sacrifices, Lt. Col. Strobl for allowing his thoughts and experiences to be shared with us, HBO for making a film that honors our fallen heroes, and everyone who puts themselves in harm's way to defend others. NEVER HAVE SO MANY OWED SO MUCH TO SO FEW
