Tanya takes umbrage with Jemma for bypassing her service to set up "dates" directly with Ray. Still upset about a decision to put down her dog, Jessica confronts Ronnie about their finances, learning that times may not be as tough as he's made them out to be. After Jemma prods Ray to open up about himself, he gives his basketball team an inspiring pep talk.

I agree that Ray does not need Tanya anymore if someone...ahem ahem ahem......can fulfill that role....but he recognizes he needs someone to be his madam. I think we are moving towards a power struggle around this.....

I agree about the Tanya-has-to-be-near-Ray theory also. Realistically, why does he really need her anymore?

I think the same as you about Tanya. She will take any connection with Ray to be near him.

Tanya is only desperate for control because her being Ray's pimp is the only tie she believes she has to him. If he doesn't need her for that, she won't have any excuse to continue seeing him. Whether she acknowledges it or not, she's in love with Ray, and she dreamed up this whole man-whore scenario so that she could keep him for herself. And she's punishing him for thinking he was better than she in their earlier encounters. Think about it, he's damaged goods now and he needs her as much as she needs him. She's brought the beautiful man "down" to her level. I don't myself believe that either of them is so degraded, but I think that's what they believe of themselves.

I guess I'd believe that more if just ONCE we saw him with a woman and he didn't make her scream. That's such a tired cliche already, and I was hoping that we wouldn't see it as much as we have.

I don't think this is a bold prediction, but if Jemma isn't paying she's going to lose interest. This is like a game to her. I think she tipped her hand at the end of the episode when responding to Ray not charging her she says, "Then it won't be as much fun"

That's why I enjoy the relationship between Ray and Jemma, she constantly gets him off balance, blundering around trying to improvise in response to her bizarre requests.

That was my thought. That myth is what Ray believes, and the show is cycling around the fact that it is just that, a myth. He seemed to think from the start that all he needed to do was show it and use it, and expected that to be enough. The funniest parts of the show are the times he realizes that he is SO WRONG about all of it!

I disagree with the premise that the show is perpetuating a myth that rugged good looks and a big tool are all that is needed....I think the show is saying that yes, there may be times when all any of us wants is to indulge our purely physical, sexual side, but much of what has been entertaining is Ray trying to figure out what he needs to do as a "happiness consultant" besides just relying on good looks and the right body parts....I think it almost attacks the myth rather than attempting to perpetuate it.....

I'll keep watching hoping it's better I totally concur, even though there have been interesting moments from time to time. The biggest problem I have with the show is that sadly, it seems to be perpetuating the myth that rugged good looks and a big "tool" are the only things required to seduce and give sexual pleasure to any woman, whether she's beautiful, average-looking, hot, frigid, young, old, etc. Nevermind being able to offer an intelligent or interesting point of view about something, or even being able to draw a woman out by asking the right questions. If a guy is GQ material, meaning classically handsome and "packing", that's all he needs. I've been waiting for an episode that would puncture holes in this myth, but it hasn't materialized yet. I sure hope this changes real soon, because I'm about to stop watching. And that's a shame, because the possibilities are all there.

I really had high hopes for this show and it's just not there. It's like watching paint dry boring. I don't know how they gave it the green light for season two. I'll keep watching hoping it's better -- 1000s of bucks for Honus Wagner and jack shit for Jesus"- Junior Soprano
