A struggling poet, Tanya works the night shift at a Detroit law firm as a perma-temp proofreader. She knows about Ray's special talent as the result of their brief encounter after visiting his history class as part of a "Poets in the Schools" program. When they meet again at an entrepreneurial workshop, it is Tanya who reminds Ray of his winning tool. She offers to help Ray in his new venture, for a percentage, while also pursuing her own project: Lyric Bread.

So agree....They must do the twosome madames to make her anywhere near fun watching. The whining crybaby I cannot take it......Wait til she finds out she has no boy friend in Cuba OMG that will be awful...the show is about Ray not her...I wish they would focus more on Ray again than on her.

Yeah, she would be unstoppable if she came into herself and really let loose! Will we see that happen?

Really? Awww, that's too bad. You think the whole show really is brought down by the Tanya character? If he had a different foil to spar with, who would you choose? Or does Ray even need one? Think he can do all this solo? (no pun intended!)

Every week I've watched this show, and every week I dislike Tanya more and more. Jane Adams plays her *so* well, that I absolutely detest the character- whiny, weak, pathetic, and a complete distraction in the show. I agree with Lenore - it would do Ray a world of good to ditch Tanya and actually do something *interesting* from here on in. I won't be watching season 2 if Tanya is back. Sorry, Ray.

You never know what the future holds, here's to hoping we'll see something like this come down someday. I know I'd tune in!

Very good insight into Tanya! I think her character is one of the most realistic on TV at the moment. She isn't model -perfect, she has hang ups and baggage. She is sort of neurotic. Is there really anyone you know or work with that doesn't have at least one small annoying habit or just something about them that bothers you?

> What do you think of Jane Adams in this role? Do you > like her and her portayal of this character? > > ********* > Host_Ginna > HBO Forums Host Jane Adams as Tanya Skagle is perfectly cast. A discerning portrayal of a woman so distracted with her internal emotions and thoughts that she has let her external self just be. Her Mother is an academic so we can extrapolate her upbringing de-emphasized one's outward manifestation. I anticipate that as the character evolves Tanya will start to exhibit more self care, and accentuate her physical assents. For example, I have very straight hair but have know women with the naturally curly hair like Ms. Adams (which is soooooooo sexy) and it is a lot of work, requires many products and expensive stylist. I can imagine Lenore or Jemma taking Tanya to a high end salon on a ?girls day outing?. It is courageous for any Hollywood Actress to forgo the standard external facade enhancements and rely on her skill and talent. Ms Adams exhibits them brilliantly. Personally, I would like to see someone cast Jane Adams in the life store of one of our superb pioneering comedic women, Imogene Coca. How about it HBO? Get to it while Sid Caesar, Carl Reiner and Carol Channing are still available for background information.

I agree I like the way that Tanya is played. It wouldn't be nearly as interesting if she were some model type woman with an outstanding personality whom everyone adored. I think that the way she is adds to the idea of how two UNLIKELY people can come up with and maintain that kind of business which keeps viewers watching.
