It doesn't seem like he does. Or maybe they just haven't verbalized that at this point? When he was getting it on with the neighbor's wife, she went right to it without putting on a sheath first. At least that is what it looks like.
That is pretty dangerous if he isn't using them.

My eye and sides hurt just thinking about it! So funny.
While in the ER they could recruit new high paying female doctor clients who are too busy for relationships and need some stress releif.

Then, as she is sliding it on, it snaps, hitting her in the eye, they end up in the emergency room, trying to explain why they are there, Tanya leaves with a eyepatch....lolol
It could be total comedy, but at the same time showing how important it is to wear a condom.

After re-watching the clip called 'Ray's First Night' where Ray says, "... that night I swallowed my pride, bought a prepaid phone and a box of condoms...", I am satisfied Ray is being smart.
We all know or have experienced how the act of donning a condom is a mood breaker. I think the big and small screen can weld substantial influence in our culture by incorporating it into the sexiness of making love (HBO). This link: http://www.redbookmag.com/love-sex/advice/applying-a-condom, gives a graphic description of one way it can be done. Viewers get good ideas from shows like 'Hung'. I'm sure a few dinning room tables and tents have been rocked this season.
Techniques could just be described and implied. I do not want to see Tanya putting a condom in her mouth then going down on Ray. Although it could be funny if Lenora is teaching her to do it using a banana. Did I see Bebe Neuwirth do this in a Woody Allen film? No that was just BJ 101.
Anyway, Ray does have a parental obligation to talk to the kids about the birds and the bees and protected sex. For sure his son, in particularly with the potential sexual activity triggered by Damon's budding same sex attraction. Condoms don't just prevent pregnancies. STDs are also life altering.

I know this is going to sound terrible, but, just out of curiosity, if they did show Ray put a condom on, would it be sexy? Know what I mean? Would you really want to see that or do you think we should just give Ray the benefit of a doubt? Ray seems to be way too smart of a guy to do what he does without protection. Shouldn't we just assume he's doing the right thing?

I have a question though kind of off subject. Ray's woman who was crazy I can't remember her name paid him regularly and pretty good. So why does the house still look like NO progress has been done to it. If his whole life at this point is fixing up his house... he hasn't been focusing on it. The last show actually showed him doing something to it rather than scratching his head and looking somber. Wouldn't be cheaper for him to tear the whole house down and start from scratch? Its just the skeleton on the house and all that is burnt so.. that is kind of stupid. ..but I'm reading too much into that part. I watch DIY tv way TOO MUCH! ha ha

- I remember Ray commenting in an early episode that he starts out his new career with rubbers. I agree with the earlier comment that his rubbers burnt up in the fire however...
- Its established Ray has slept with his wife, Tanya and at least two other women. Some times more than once.
- There is the care and respect he has for his kids.
- His older career as a coach and history teacher.
- I'd thought of all this and just assumed he has been using protection. I don't think it's really proven but I give creative license for this one...imho...
- 2 cents more... I also agree it would be nice to see an episode with Ray working in the "puttin on the glove" bit, even indirectly. I mean that has to be part of being a gigolo, yes? Many juicy angles for writers here... comedy, irony, public statement, ad placement, etc... Maybe showing using a condom gets to close to showing the full frontal?

A man should always ware his party hat when having
re-creational sex.
It's unfortunate responsible intimacy practices weren't addressed from the start with dialog like Ray telling Tanya all his rubbers were damaged in the fire. It could have been reiterated when Tanya gives him the first $300 and tells him pick up enough protection... Even have a discussion about the women's perspective on prophylactics. Latex allergies, ribbed, flavored, glow in the dark, ect...all important and entertaining issues.
Trojan would pay to have such product placement. (HBO!$!) There were missed opportunities. Hopefully this will change.
