I think it's all relative to the individual though. You both have had experiences that are unique to you, that are important to you on an equal level. Having strangers or even well-intentioned family or friends invade your privacy like that without even thinking about how it makes you feel, well it's obviously rude, made worse by the fact that they are oblivious to how rude they are. Nothing is more annoying than someone who takes liberties like that and butts in, to satisfy their personal curiosities.

As a trans-man (female to male) I can empathize with her dilemma. May I say congrats! I had watched numerous programs on this I find this to be very fascinating. Funny thing is when I watched a program on drag kings (I know these are different) I was attracted to more than one person ha ha! To me all of you to choose this or even ponder this procedure are incredibly brave and courageous. I def applaud you in this decision and I appreciate you informing us on the boards about your personal experiences. Curiosity about our transitions is typical. People are often apologeticly asking me about my penis. Does that piss you off? Do you feel like telling people to kiss off it's none of your business... u will find out if I want u to find out. I'm black and I get tired to people asking what type of hair products I use and touch my hair and say wow it's kind of spongy.. that is REALLY annoying! but doesn't come close to what you must have to go thru.

Tom Jane's sister-in-law, Alexis Arquette has been very guarded about her privates of late; in spite of being the subject of the documentary ?She's my Brother? which was intended to follow her journey of Genital Reassignment Surgery. Based on the reviews I read and her interview I saw on Larry King; she apparently did a 180 degree turn concerning disclosing if not the whole procedure. Maintaining, ?Its no body's business whats under [her] skirt.? Ironically, we can all review what was in, I mean out of, his pants. As a trans-man (female to male) I can empathize with her dilemma. As trystme points out; Alex was blessed. I myself had beautify 36D breasts. And as much as these feel foreign to our body, or our inherent self body concept, they are part of us, the familiar. The results of male to female surgery have been highly developed. They are very successful. Often undiscernable by sex partners and OBGYNs, allowing multiple orgasms. But it is still the unknown and the penis is a hard (I mean difficult) thing to give up (I mean, skin, gut, turn inside out, have pushed up inside you, then stuff like a turkey.) TMI? You know you want to know. Curiosity about our transitions is typical. People are often apologeticly asking me about my penis. Disclosure is education, which creates greater understanding. This in turn fosters more acceptance. Which leads to a better quality of life for trans-people. Yet sometimes it is just to personal, embarrassing or monotonous. You just want to live your life. Not be the poster man or women for the issue. But that passes and you realize you have a unique life experience to share with the world. Always, Randy

they have NO problem going full frontal on women. I find it a bit sexist that they HARDLY do that on HBO for men... it's like seeing Big Foot you have to be there at the right time and moment. stars have to align.. for woman to be shown full frontal is no problem for them hardly any controversy with that. Women are always seen as sex objects and is normal to see them or some part of them naked but for men to be portrayed that way seems to be hard to swallow for either the American public or the media who knows. Also depends on the person answering the question. I figure if your going all the way go all the way across the board. This show is for ladies not guys I can understand why shows like Sons of Anarchy shows women a lot hell men watch the show. So HBO needs to accustom to the women viewers. Women can deal with sex but has to be tasteful... hence the long standing of Sex and the city it's still going on strong and hasn't been on the air for ages. but it's the first and honestly only show out there that isn't scared to show women as sexual creatures and that we DON'T have to be ASHAMED of being sexual, wanting and enjoying sex. For this show to have a lot of T & A and nothing for heterosexual women to view except for Jane's abs (nothing wrong with that but if your flashing vag to people I am kind of feeling like WTF). Also this show is about sex. Ray is a hoe you know so for women to be like I don't NEED to see this or that.. WHY are you watching a show about sex if you get offended about them showing sex or male bits... doesn't make sense... shouldn't the whole show be too much? Do you find the women nudity to be tasteful? Was the landing strip shot necessary? I was SHOCKED to see that and I'm like OK maybe they will NOT do Boogie Nights and show Ray's well talent. You can't have a whole show based off a golden calf for it NOT to be shown is funny. I think HBO needs to grow a pair and show it.. they did on Oz, didn't they show it for queer as folk too? I find it to be disappointing that women are still shown as objects EVEN in a show where the MALE is supposed to be the object. Not vica versa.

I do remember one on Deadwood but it was an ugly fat guy. Just like on True Blood, sure they'll show the coronors little bits but not Bill, Eric, Jason, or Hoyt. I want equal time for us heterosexual women!

Yea I agree with you. If we are going to show things we should do so equally. Especially after they showed a frontal of Lenore. If they don't show him it will hurt the series because to not have a full frontal of a guy when the whole show even the title revolves around his penis is total crap.

I do think it's interesting that in movies and certain TV that full frontal of women is not only acceptable, but almost expected. Not all movies and TV, just certain ones. We see a woman's breasts and "down below" and it just isn't shocking at all. Why there seems to exist a double standard for men is something that is really confusing and I don't really understand the rationale there. Especially now, we've come a long way in TV, it really shouldn't be a big deal to show a man in full frontal. Hung definately qualifies! Why do you think this double standard exists in today's entertainment (non porn) industry?

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed as well, I think that if he really isn't able to measure up they have body doubles for actors and actresses all the time, and they should use one of them then. Since it is the whole premise of the show for them to not at least have one shot of it isn't fair when they show women all the time.

I don't know, she kind of had the landing strip going on--that was pretty realistic. -- Edited by magnoliadeb at 09/01/2009 8:03 AM PDT
