can't wait to hear everyone's take on McSame's choice for veep! you realize of course this is to lure the disgruntled democrat women who wanted Hillary as vp choice on the democratic ticket! but i have a feeling it ain't gonna work. . . today is also the anniversary of Katrina with Gustav bearing down on the same area. . . think its a coincidence the GOP wants to postpone their convention? sounds like they might be running scared a little here!

May this pain come directly to Clinton for disgracing the Oval Office.

Thanks my brother nice response
Don't worry it will take more than one lose to get me off the wagon, I was working for the Tigers in 03 when we lost 119 games, I just like what the brew crew is doing and Picking up CC, was beer in six packs brillant

Yes he was a great player, and yes that was horrible that people in Denver booed his memory. I'm sure that was all about the Bronco/Raider rivalry and whoever did it should be deeply ashamed. I don't wish to denigrate the man, my only point was that many people felt he was a poor representative of the players best interests. Here's to Gene, One of the greatest offensive lineman of all time.

Tonight would have been a good time to find alternate transportation. The Brew Crew blew a two run lead in the eighth and lost 5-3. Oh well, at least the Cardinals didn't spank Milwauke the way Milwaukee spanked the Cardinals last night, and the Brewers still won the season 10-5. Before they took the lead a lot of their players were frustrated and were acting like crybabys, tossing helmets, barking at the ump, taunting Braun when he struck out and chastising Riske for celebrating after getting out of an inning. They were pretty disgraceful. Not acting like adults at all.

Hi Brother,

I hope you guys had better luck than our kittys, im on the Brew Crew Band Wagon officially.

now back to Gene, I said he was not a good lawyer, I said it was not a good deal for the players, and the pention platform may be the worst in sports and has screwed many people over the years in such a violent sport, im a fan of the game and Gene Upshaw was fantastic as a player, its like if OJ died, a part of me would say, man a great football player died today, and im sure his family and children will hurt and feel loss and thats not something to ever root for, its bad juju. And we know what a scumbag he turned out to be

on the subject of a descent pention for the old guys, it is a crime and todays players should take care of there roots how you can soley blame the player rep is beyond me, just because people booed his moment of silence sure doesnt make it right, he made some mistakes sure, but he didnt kill anyone and he loved the game, loved the raider nation, he was one of the best players ever, show some love people.

Skor baby, how are you?
its a little hairy at the park now, but im doing well.

How are you?

Be Well

No worries mate. Actually I thought I was the conversation killer, not you. Not to continue our disagreement but perhaps Mike Webster was a poor example but certainly the most extreme. The info I provided was from wikipedia and no mention is made on the page as to Websters drug and alcohol problems. However there are many other ex NFL players who were paid, relative to todays players salaries, peanuts and have suffered from physical and mental disabilities as a result of injuries sustained while playing, and they do not have the resources to deal effectively with these problems. I just don't think all has been done to help these men, but perhaps it is unfair to place all the blame for this situation on Gene Upshaw, but I still do believe he needed to do more and I'm not the only one who feels this way. But on the other hand I also think some of the blame for this problem is a result of apathy and greediness on the part of current and recently retired players. If they wanted to, they could force the NFL to institute a better disability program for the veterans, but this would require some digging into their own pockets.

Oh and thanks for the Brewers happy thoughts. Keep your fingers crossed, They're winning 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th. I gotta say the Cardinals are acting like a bunch of pouting little spoiled brats in this game.

well as much as im sorry for things done after he retired, including not representing the players very well, they got as shitty deal for sure.

Gene Upshaw as a player was easily top 5 lineman of all time
as a team he may have played on the best line in history, Im not a fan of the Raiders personally, but he did represent them proudly, I sure wish here were a Lion for sure.

Mike Webster also a top 5 Lineman, also had a serious problem with Alcohol & Drugs, seems weird you left that off his life story because it was common knowledge and I love the Steelers, I believe its a disgrace the way Webster was treated, but you can't blame Gene Upshaw personally as you stated, lots of people tried to help Mike, I believe Gene personally tried to help Mike as I recall.

I just saw no mention of his passing and I believe he was certinaly notable just by his playing career, but to go to law school after pro football is impressive to me, what are the odds he'd be a Hall Of Famer in two areans, so he was a shitty attorney, he did a lot for the game, im just a fan of Hall Of Famers, im sorry if I inturupted your conversation sorry, it just seemed so obvious that the comment was disregared, I felt the need to defend a man I never met or really liked for that matter, because he was one of the greats, and I was sorry to see him pass.
RIP Gene

Peace
Oh and let me just say for the record, Gene Upshaw played a similar position to Mike Webster and still had enough grey matter to get a law degree and practice law even poorly, he started before Webster and ended after Webster if webster was in 25,000 car wrecks Upshaw was in about 40,000 and then practiced law

Well that was a convo killer. Sorry guys, come back. Gene Upshaw did do a lot for the NFL and the players, I just wish he had worked harder to help the players who really someone to stick up for them when they could not and no one else would. He would have left an even greater legacy.

RIP Gene.

From Wikipedia.

Webster was a controversial figure due to his tumultuous personal life after his retirement. He is believed to have been legally disabled in 1996, and possibly before, suffering from amnesia, dementia, depression, and acute bone and muscle pain. He lived out of his pickup truck or train stations between Wisconsin and Pittsburgh even though he had friends and former teammates willing to rent apartments for him. He attended his Hall of Fame ceremony in 1997, but disturbed some with a rambling, 20-minute long, incoherent acceptance speech. In his last years Webster lived with his youngest son Garrett, who was only a teenager at the time but had to act more as the parent to his own father than Webster did. His wife divorced him six months before his death in 2002. He was only 50 years old.

Webster is seen as an example of the difficulties American football players suffer when their careers are over. Other players notable for having retired due to head injuries include Johnny Unitas, Merril Hoge, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Joe Gilliam, Dave Pear, Wayne Chrebet, Al Toon, and Mike Utley.

Webster was cremated after his death. His ashes were split among his wife and their four children.

It is universally believed that Webster's ailments were the result of damage sustained over his playing career, and some doctors estimated he had been in the equivalent of "25,000 automobile crashes" in over 35 years of playing football at various levels. Protective equipment, in particular helmets, was inferior during Webster's time, and defensive players sometimes employed a "head slap" move that was then accepted although illegal. Nicknamed "Iron Mike", Webster's reputation for durability led him to play even though injured. While widely believed to have used them, Webster never admitted to using anabolic steroids at points during his career. He did state, however, that if he did take steroids, "they were legal at the time".

> Damn, no love for Gene Upshaw
> He was great

I don't wanna piss on the mans grave but he was also not much loved by most of the retired players. He did very little for the guys that sacrificed their bodies and minds for the game and needed and deserved some compensation from the NFL. (see Mike Webster)
