information center for John from cincinnati

I am getting tired of jumping from one thread to another to pick tidbits of info and pertinent links here and there.
This thread is established with only one purpose.
Central Station, info center. Any links, info, please post here. Above the link please include short description of it.
Let's try not to include a lot of personal interaction, it
will distract users, complicate finding necessary information.
Let's combine all info here. If you think this is a bad idea, what else you can suggest to streamline the flow of info?

Water!! That would be so great if you can do it!
I didn't get to see the show, due to lack of cable, so if you can manage it, it will be very sweet for me.

Give me a week or two, ten days? And I would be very excited to do retro!! I just gotta get moved. There's a lovely windy storm on the way, and I think most of you know, I don't have much in the way of a roof right now.

Hello everyone! Just dropping by to say hello. I do have the Craig Ferguson interview on my TIVO. If I can figure out how to get it on my PC, I can upload it to FB.

So, is there any talk of a retrospective coming up?

Take care now!

No real artist can retire, it's not a job, art is heartbeat. An artist must develop skills to master the craft, but in truth he is possessed by his art. They draw a sketch and dictate a novel on their deathbed, work until the end.

Milch is of the same caliber, he won't stop writing just because he can afford to spend his days in leisure.
Let him have time to accomplish all he has to.

No, but Milch may be aware of the campaigns, letters, etc and that may just be enough to fuel an artist's desire to continue his art. I would imagine he is in position to just retire if he wished.

Some of us watched Mr.Milch interview on Late Late Show.
I know that Trishah had it recorded, Sonra probably had too. May be someone has enough free time to try and transcribe it from the recording? It would be great to have the full text posted here, on the info thread and on Save JFC site.
I think Milch and JFC both deserve it.

I understand that everyone is busy, etc, and that is obviously not a pressing matter, whenever it's convenient.

Who is able and willing?

Edited to add. Our board is such a small entity, the audience that
loved JFC is so much wider, let's not overestimate ourselves.
We couldn't save the show after all.

I just love you guys!

I'm soooo happy to be able to come here and get good information about "the group." I don't always check who Craig has on every night though his is the one late night show I will watch front-to-back.

So thanks for keeping this good information coming!

And yes Milch must have something going... or a bee in his bonnet lol.

No one of us probably has any serious hope that Milch will return to JFC and HBO to finish the story. Life is too short and everchanging for such a creative mind to dwell in the past.

Yesterday I was reading that "NY publisher releases Deveraux novel as video book". I will quote from the article with the same title.

"Disney Publishing, Scholastic Inc. and the Perseus Book Group are some of the publishers experimenting with multiplatform texts, which combine words, audio, video and Internet links.

The latest novel from best-selling romance author Jude Deveraux isn't exactly a book. "Promises" is a reading and viewing experience, a digital text in which videos not only complement the narrative but add to it.

"Promises" is one of four online video books being published Thursday by Simon & Schuster Inc. in collaboration with Vook, an Emeryville, Calif.-based startup that integrates text, video and social networking.

Deveraux's novel, a romance-mystery set on a 19th-century South Carolina plantation, runs 131 pages, punctuated with 17 short videos, including images of the plantation and of a young soldier running through the woods, Simon & Schuster says."

Video books are unlikely to become standard in the near future if only because of the expense of filming. Executives at Vook and Simon & Schuster would not say how much it cost to shoot video for the four books, although Inman says the budget for an individual title was less than $100,000."

It doesn't cost that much to publish a book, (a screenplay) and
Marc Ostrick could produce the videos, I was thinking, if only Milch just... what, looked back?

Then I remembered the old, old myth, they usually end bad.
You know, Orpheus looks back and then what happens to the girl.....

There are not many 'if's, and way too many 'but's.
Still - what if?

I promise, Sven.
I may give the subtitles a try.
I do confess that while I was watching at first, I did rewind a bit and re-watch scenes that I didn't quite grasp (thanks to TIVO). I actually now consider that to be a bad habit and don't rewind anymore. I found myself sitting in the movie theater expecting to rewind cool scenes on the big screen. :-D

You got so much from just one viewing, Zipppy, it's amazing, you were way ahead of me. I'll tell you a secret (:^O), I had to watch JFC 3 or 4 times, and with the subtitles no less, to understand the dialog. Bill Jacks and Barry had given me the most trouble with that Shakespearean abundance. I envy you a little, you'll be discovering so many rare gems. You'll have to tell us what's your impression afterward, promise.

See, this is why I need to watch this show again soon.
Thanks for clearing all that up Sven. I obviously don't have a clue. The father as the used car salesman is something that completely flew over my head. I'll be quiet on this topic until I watch the show again!

Zippy said:

"Why do we assume that his motives (if he truly has any) are pure and good? When Milch chose to show his father (if that was the father in those hallucinatory scenes?) he made him look like something out of one of those "Living Dead" movies. In the back of my mind, I always wondered if our John might be here on a sinister mission. What if the father needs to feast on human souls/human goodness to get back to the earthly realm? I only wonder this because of his gruesome appearance. If the father were divine, would he be subject to the failing of the flesh, the zombie-like pallor? For me, this was a big question mark when it comes to discussing John's divinity and mission."

God, no, Zippy, the deathly blue creature with the hole in his head is Barry?s nightmare, Mr.Rollins, the child molester from room 24, the decaying body of whom John brings to the cookout. That scene is of prophetic significance for the main life affirming concept of JFC. It can hardly be connected to the latest avalanche of vampire/zombie shows and books (what a strange and quite perverse trend in popular culture).

John's Father is the used car salesman who was introduced at the Cherry and Oldies dealership, late in the show in episode 10. He is unmistakably alive and refreshingly sarcastic.

Regarding the sinister nature or malevolent purpose of John - that question could be bothersome only in the first couple of episodes. After Shaun's return to life one would be fighting very hard not to trust in John's and his mission inherent goodness. However, with all his enticing childlike quirks and idiosyncrasies John himself is not the source of power, he is more its conduit, and as such can?t initiate or perform any of the miracles.

My somewhat disconnected thoughts, not necessarily correct, of course. I know I'll be watching the cookout scene tonight.
