Bush rejects recession fears - what?

Was anyone else as floored as I to see that GWB "rejects recession fears"? I've got news for him, but I think we've been there for a bit. It's just been handled carefully enough that we haven't crashed, but I think we're really teetering on a very narrow edge.

Donna...thanks. I truly think this topic is very worth discussing. :)

It's not being held back...it's just not being acknowledged. One third of my office was laid off today...but hell, there is no recession. Talk about being out of touch with reality.

IMHO this administration wants to PRETEND that a recession is not in full bloom to give the Republicans a chance in November. It just boggles my mind.

I meant, can you reasonably expect more from W. Anything positive he said in his campaigns was said because focus groups approved the words and phrases, NOT BECAUSE HE HAD ASPIRATIONS OF BUILDING A BETTER AMERICA. It is called the audacity of self interest and greed.

I was in Lenexa this week along with Topeka, Liberty, Leavenworth, and Lee's Summit. If you can't find a job in all that industry rich area with Ford, GM, and Harley Davidson along with the support plants you aren't looking very hard. I was in Hallmark and they were training 10 new employees that day.

First of all, you are ONE MAN. You are not an entire economy. You're in an overpaid profession and good for you. But this doesn't mean that the lady behind the counter selling you your damn groceries, which cost three times what they did in '81, is making one thin dime more than she made in '81.

Most likely she's getting $7.50 an hour, but the gas, groceries, and clothes she needs, in order to keep serving you, have all tripled in price. And they keep going up and up.

And of course she's got no health care, so I hope she doesn't give you her cold or flu while she's ringing up your steak or counting your change back into your hands.

Catch up? Are you even living in the same country as the rest of us? Fuel has climbed so high that people are cancelling travel plans, QUITTING JOBS because it's not worth it to commute to and from work, and the price of food, clothes, and everything that has to be shipped, has also skyrocketed. $5 for a bag of apples??? Are you kidding me?

I can't believe the empty stores and closed businesses I see, when I go out. A lot of people have been taken out the game lately. It's a bit scary, and apparently it's gonna get worse because the price of corn's going up.

EVERYTHING has gone up--except our pay.

Omahume, exactly what I was saying the other day! Isn't that what Marie Antoinette lost her head for, for being out of touch with her people, "Let them eat cake"? Only with Bush it's "Let them spend tax cuts and one time rebates" while businesses are closing, outsourcing, cutting benefits; inflation is at an all time high; and the stock market is being pulled back from teetering over the edge by sheer force of will. But that begs the question for just how long can they really hold it back?

Yea, gas was an all time high at about $1.70 in May. England was above $4.00 at the time. But sorry I do not make it a point to remember every fact prior to 9/11. My point wasn't about gas, it is the fact about how clueless he is about the issue of ordinary people in this country. I guess a President doesn't really need to know about the issues that really affect the American people. What was I thinking? I thought that they are suppose to at least pretend to care a little bit.

I can't believe that GWB is so unaware of everything but he didn't know that analysts are predicting gas going up to at least $4.00 per gal. I can't believe we have survived seven years with this man as President. I want to scream when I hear the people talking about the lack of experience of Barack or Hillary. Both seem brilliant next to GW. I dislike this exchange made by Hillary also. I am so tire of both the Bushes and Clintons.
